Hi Icklesal - so sorry things seem to be going so bad for you at the mo :(

Just wondered if you had seen the articals in the VN times - there is to be a full time VN course introduced as so many nurses are finding it imposible to find a training position within a practice. I obviously have no idea how this would work for you financially as there will undoubtably be course fees and you wont be training in a paid job but maybe it's worth looking into? In the artical is says 'for more info call Donna Clark on 01480 226180' It does not make it very clear where the course is being run but it's always worth a look eh?

no they didnt know my plans, only me and my man (and now u guys) know about that. i wouldnt of done the family thing straight away, it would of just enabled us to afford our own place, perhaps save for a wedding etc

The thing is though, they would have got 'new blood' because they'd have had to employ another nursing assistant to replace you if they'd turned you into a trainee

Perhaps they don't want to lose you from your current role because you are good at it and it would be a hassle to find a replacement? I've known some odd places where they think like that! Hopefully something brilliant will turn up for you soon.

Working for less than minimum wage is definately the key i think, i earned £40 a week as an SVN which then went up to £60 in my second year

God forbid they should actually want a nurse that knows what she's doing. Is the best strategy for interviews to walk in and pretend to be thick before telling them that you're willing to work for minimum wage?

First time doing this! Hope you don't mind the random!!

I was at my first practice for 3 years as a nursing assistant and applied for a permanent trainee position but was told they also wanted 'new blood'. I was really upset because I thought I'd get the job hands down .

I did a mailshot to all the vets in my area (about 20 places!) and waited for replies.

I had to put my personal plans on hold while I trained but it was worth it in the end. It's only 2 years (I know it sounds like a long time but it really does fly past) and then you can start sorting out family life. Maybe talk to your other half and come to a decision? It might be worthwhile finding a place offering accommodation with the job even if it means moving areas for a bit?

well i called and asked for feedback, they have decided to employ someone who is new to the profession. i work for the group and i used to work at the hospital where the job was. i worked on recepiton there for 18months and was desperate to start nursing, they told me i needed experience so i moved to a smaller branch and have gained 2.5 years experience. now i have the experience they tell me i have too much basically. i cant win v

its not a case of qualifiying so i can get married and start a family, its more than that. its the job ive always wanted and not being qualified is not good enough for me. im 26 now and being married and having a family is also important to me, i want to get my qualififcations so i have my dream job and then i can in time do the other things i want.
