You could possibly try the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Foundation in South Africa (working with 63 cheetahs, rescue lions and tiger, wild dogs etc). They have staff accommodation there. Although I was on a volunteering holiday (where I paid to work) the contact with these animals was very hands on.

There was also a place close to them call the Moholoholo Rehabilitation Centre (cheetah, tiger, baby rhino, a lot of birds of prey, lions,). They had a VN who had come out from England over a year ago who was responsible for hand rearing 2 lion cubs.

Both places are very close to Kruger National Park and all staff that look after the animals are under 25 years old. Links below

I went to Sri Lanka to work at MEF with elephants a couple of years ago, which got me into volunteering at my local zoo every month or so. The Frontier website also looks quite good.

There are a few organizations on g[reek islands [Zante being one of them Ithink], who have peeps doing surveys on turtles.Sounds fun. You pay food and board.Sleep in tents on beach. If I was 20 years younger.

If you like monkeys there is a great place I spent a month at in South Africa. Its working with Vervet Monkeys and it was a friendly/ fun place.

I worked at a lovely place in Ecuador called santa martha rescue

website above. You do have to pay to cover board/food etc but its a great place and you have lots to do with the animals. I loved it there
