is a course in north west if thats anywhere near you?! think its for nurses but its not very clear!

Hi Sian

I did go to that lecture and it made me even more determined to learn more about ultrasounds. He is an excellent lectuer. Im sure he would be good for a course for nurses.

Have looked at cpd courses , only found VS ones - Costs again are a problem.

had a quick flick through and it looks quite readable and could be used in conjunction with practical view of ultrasounds.

Blimmin typical, I was supposed to be going on the Saturday but had to change to Sunday due to lack of space on a workshop.

I would really appreciate it if you could find out as still have some cpd allowance left. Had a bit of a practice today but not 100% sure of what we were actually looking at

Hi, just wanted to say what a shame you wern't at congress saturday, Julian Hoad (very proud to say I work with him) gave a fantastic and hilarious lecture on a tour of the abdomen..understanding ultrasounds, I learnt so much in that short space of time just wish we had more time at work for him to teach us cus he made it so easy.. anyway Im pretty sure he does nurse cpd quite regularly (he has borrowed my dog before for a hands on lecture but not sure whether it was vets or nurses he was lecturing), but I can ask tommorow if and when/where he is doing furthur lectures in future!

I personally think it would be very hard to learn and understand ultrasonography from a text book, and would really reccommend finding a good cpd course to go on where your bound to get notes but they can hopefully make it all make sense with real time recordings of ultrasounds rather than still photos.

There are hardly any qualifications for VNs in diagnostics!!! The AAVR are setting up certificates in CT, MR and nuclear medicine for tech! I wrote to the RCVS asking for an equivalent qualification to be set up for VNs in this country and all I got in response was "thanks for your suggestions we are always looking for suggestions for extra modules on to be added to the new diploma" totally missed my point!

have you spoken to your practice about your interest? could they possibly help fund a purchase for the practice that you would have unlimited access to? since it's a new machine maybe one of the other vets might be interested in something to read up on too?

they aren't really meant to be bought by you personally. usually they are purchased by a practice or hospital OR by a vet or doctor that can afford it. i also thing vet techs in the US get a better wage and better support from the companies they work for when it comes to their educational funding and progression.

also i get the impression Ultrasounds are to be done and diagnosed by a vet/doctor/surgeon not nurses. but i personally am fascinated with them too so i get why you would want to learn more about them!

Have a look on the Elsevier website and see if they have one that tickles you fancy. I think when you register they give you a % off your order at the moment too. They do a lot of the veterinary books out there and would have some pretty competitive prices.

Someone recommended a book by Nyland and Mattoon and the CAW stand had a few so I got one from them. I had to ask them though as I couldn't see them. Only skimmed through it but it looks ok although if someone bring out an 'idiots guide' I will definitely get that as well

The BSAVA are apparently in the process of doing theirs and it should be out this time next year - bit too long for me to wait!

I have just come back from BVNA. I too was looking for a book on this subject,

unfortunatly there were none available - Came home empty handed!

Hi Julie,

the only one I know is the BSAVA Manual, its probably quite expensive and more so for Vets maybe?

Ask at the bookstand, they will probably have a list of books and may be able to advise you.
