She picks and chooses cases, and doesnt even bother doing TPRs half the time - a bit frustrating but anyway.

Used to do this a lot, they wobble don't they??!! Just use your thumb to steady the wobble!! Another thing is to be careful how you tape, allow for the leg straightening as they can pull them out.

i've never really had an issue dripping anything, i seem to be a natural :)

Re: keeping anaesthetised patients warm

Why not suggest to her that you would like to make a point of recording temps pre and post op - do your patients have hosp sheets? Why not make a chart for all staff members to fill out so then you can see how low temps are dropping - we did this so we could show our boss as we wanted a bair hugger that we could use pre and post op- we got our way lolol!

We TPR everything when they walk in the door and post op while they are coming round from sx.Our Head nurse very much actively encourages it.I agree with you it is very shocking how low the temps will drop.We are refferal though so they tend to be under anaesthesia for a while but we do have a first opinion side to.Stick to your guns!

Re: keeping anaesthetised patients warm

That would be very annoying to say the least! Is your HN approachable? Did you tell her about the temperature of the cat spay? Otherwise if you're vets seem more concerned about the subject, speak with them and maybe implement new protocols during the next practice meeting. It can be difficult to change ideas, especially when the person concerned has been there a long time but something like this shouldn't really be taken lightly.

As for catheterising saphenous veins, it's just practice, practice, practice!! Have only done one on a Boxer whose cephalics were both completely blown. Do them more on bunnies than dogs and cats!

Good Luck!
