Enucleations don't tend to affect hamsters a great deal as their eyesight is so poor anyway so they can cope well. In a 4 year old hamster though it would obviously be much more of a risk. There isn't any known treatment for the condition except ocular lubricants as the eye will tend to dry out even more. Depending upon the amount of i/o pressure, there is the chance the eye will rupture but its no guarantee it will happen soon.

Hope little hammy is okay.

Re: Hamster with Glaucoma

One of the nurses at work her Hamster we think it may of had glaucoma but only realised this after the eye had ruptured perhaps due to the change in pressure behind the eye? the vet removed the eye, hammy survived, unfortunately only for a week.

Not a very positive story sorry
