Hi

Yeah Deter has been discontinued, but apparently pro - fibre is the thing to use, have reccommended it to a few clients with good results. Or theres the old pineapple chunks but I know a few dogs who vomit up the pineapple!

Hope this helps

yeah, I've heard pineapple chunks works too... few clients have tried their dogs on it.

Re: Any ideas

my cocker used to do this but with the help of a pet corrector and a squeaky tennis ball, she stopped very quickly. she now carries a ball on her whole walk (quite obsessively but she is a working cocker!), if i forget the ball, i do have to watch what she is sniffing for but if she has her ball i don't have to watch her. yey for tennis balls!!

Re: Any ideas

I have just started using Protexin Pro Fibre for my copraphagic dog, seems to be working even just after 1 week, not had smelly poo breath for a couple of days. Otherwise I would advise pineapple or courgette. Be aware of picking up the poo straight away - some dogs think that it is very important and get possessive over it - Why do you want it???? I'm going to eat it quicker!! Try distraction once they've poo'd shout, attract their attention, squeak a toy, anything except the poo!

If all else fails a baskerville muzzle may help, but cleaning poo from these is not fun!

Re: Any ideas

They clean up the mess as soon as they see it but the dog finds it. They are even standing over him to stop him. I believe from the discussion with the client that he has always done it which is why he is muzzled when they are not watching him.

I've taken him out to see exactly what he does and the noise goes down and thats it he is focused. Noise doesn't distract him.

Re: Any ideas

Hello,

The deter tables were ok but will not stop him eating anyone else's poo. Pineapple added can help but again on stops them eating their own!.

Firstly I understand the owner rather than the dog may be reluctant to change diet but it's worth considering esp if he not on a highly digestable, high qulaity diet, he may be missing essential nutrients. Look into food with low faecal volume. Ie highly digestable something like a sens ctrl / ID / EN may be good? sens stomach type even.

Try using a DAP collar in conjution with a behaviour modification programme- may require behavioural refferal. Start with taking toys/ ball (what every the dog loves) and gain his attention to this and play etc when he looks interested in eating the pooo. I.e distraction tech! some Vets even advise using a negative stmuli such as the hissing cans or 'beans in a can' shaked loudly when they do something naughty and the praise/ reward the good behaviour such as leaving the poo alone and coming to play.

Adding pineapple to food can help with some dogs as this can deter them from eating their own faeces, but obviously won't help with other poo lying around. It can be an attention seeking or learned behaviour though, has he always done this? Do the owners shriek when they see him approach faeces? This can be a response that the dog wants and so will continue so they should not show any emotion when they try and divert his attention away from it.
