I am signed into a lease on my flat until July 2010 and I really love where I live and who I'm living with. A permanent job has come up in the area and it sounds great. The great news is that I start my new permanent job next monday I have now done 8 months in my current position and don't feel so bad about leaving. It'll be sad to leave as I have got quite settled but not knowing the future was secure was a problem. Now it's no more worries!! Thanks again guys

Re: Advice needed

[quote user="lil.miss.hc"]

Good luck for the interview, i really hope you get it. I think you made the right decision by applying for the permanant position. I once made the mistake of turning down the chance of a permanant job for a company that sacked me in the next few months.

Sorry, i meant i turned down the chance of a permanant job in favour of a different company, which ended up sacking me anyway. Was a case of misplaced loyalty.

Re: Advice needed

Good luck for the interview, i really hope you get it. Think that really is the best for you. you have been very loyal and you have done the 6 months. If it is a good practice that you are working for they will be very understanding or even offer you a permenent post to keep you when it comes to the crunch.

Re: Advice needed

[quote user="Gypsy Nurse"]

Good point!! I was being tad pressumptious and working off the fact that they would want me.....darn, where did that ego spring from?!?! hehe!!

I am going home this weekend for some R&R and moor trekking with the dog which will hopefully give me some breathing space and time to think.
If you had the interview and was offered it you are then in a better position to decide - after all something on paper might look good but you might not like the place when you visit, or the people, or the working regime, so you might even have turned it down.

Apply and see what happens next before you mention it to the place you are locuming at.

Re: Advice needed

I would agree with Fi. Maternity leave covers are difficult as its not really known how the new mum feels about returning to work so leaves the nurse covering the position in an awkward position. You have done six months for them so this is a good stint to have done a locum at and I doubt it would be considered being flaky for you to leave beforehand.

You need to think about your long term considerations, especially being a locum where the security isn't often there otherwise. Good luck!

Re: Advice needed

If this new job is permanent, then I would speak to your boss and say whats happened & the opportunity that has arisen.. You might find your boss is understanding and at the end of the day you are a locum and will they be as loyal to you when the maternity nurse comes back??

Re: Advice needed

Also I should mention that I have a big sense of loyalty in that I should stay where I am until they know about the nurse I am covering. I hate letting people down and this usually ends up in me making myself miserable. However, seeing as my housing situation and financial situation depend on having a long term job, I'm really at a loss to know what to do. Do you thing a potential employer would see me as flakey if I was leaving maternity cover before the other nurse was back? So confused right now!!
