They mentioned they could use out of date / short dated drugs but I cant remember who they were!!!

Things have changed a lot since last year, since we all need to keep track of batch numbers etc now for legal purposes, I think short dated drugs would be fine but OOD would be illegal now

yep, thats true!! batch numbers have to be recorded now on a patients file .. and OOD meds have to be disposed of in the correct way.. tabets in a denature kit (think injectabes too?) - ours get sent to somerlease pet crematorium.

Re: Donating out of date meds

thats such a shame - so many drugs get wasted either for being OOD or for not having breaching dates recorded (injectables obv)

Re: Donating out of date meds

Things have changed a lot since last year, since we all need to keep track of batch numbers etc now for legal purposes, I think short dated drugs would be fine but OOD would be illegal now

Re: Donating out of date meds

Thanks for all the info - I will check out the links.

"the drugs have to be disposed of or you are breaking the Veterinary Medicines Regulations 2008 and could be prosecuted. Vicky, I appreciate exactly where you are coming from, trying to run a rescue on limited funds, but for a forum member to dish out medication to anybody who joins and posts on this forum would be both illegal and highly irresponsible. If there was a complication resulting from administration of such a product there would be no-one to foot the bill and it might end up costing the rescue more in the long run. Expiry dates exist because drugs cease to be at optimum efficiacy past a certain date - if an animal requires a prescription only drug, it requires it for a purpose and out of date products may not keep a condition under control.

This is a charity based in ecuador which i have volunteered at for a few months last year and are desperate for drugs to treat the many sick and injured animals they get there.
