Just wondering what methods you guys use for obtaining blood of kitties for glucose curves?
Just wondering what you've found works best/worst

This is what we have been doing, just wondering what else people had tried. I have used ear *** methods previously with EMLA cream earlier

Love the IV cath and stent though, we're finding it works brill and dont mind it and can sample alone if required

Re: Glucose Curves

Oooh, I'll have to try the stent thingies - I've not seen them before.

I've tried the pin *** method on both ears and pads with mixed results.

Re: Glucose Curves

we use jelco i/v catheters and stents (animal care) for cats that are in for the day- these are good coz 99% cats will let you sample from it on your own and the stent thingy prevents clotting in the catheter so you get a fresh sample each time. we did use the ear method until recently when i was looking through some info (i think it was diabetic cpd stuff) and saw that ear samples are not reliable as the blood mixes with serous fluid and it buggers up the true reading....

Re: Glucose Curves

ear or paw pad works fab

Re: Glucose Curves

Ditto to the above.
