Qualifying for a Licentiateship award could not be easier, and once qualified, you will be fully recognized at the level of Master Craftsman in Europe and towards the level of National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 4.

Who is it aimed at?

The Licentiateship is suitable for team supervisors and those at first line management level. This award recognizes five years of professional development, after achieving a level 3 qualification.

Are there any entry requirements?

To qualify, you will need:

a level 3 pass
a further career qualification
five years’ experience at supervisory or first line management level subsequent to your level 3 pass.

Each route to LCGI has specific qualification criteria, details of which are available from the Senior Awards Administrator, Patrick Sherlock. As a minimum requirement, applicants must hold a level 3 qualification (e.g. NVQ level 3, City & Guilds Advanced Craft, BTEC National Diploma). Career extension evidence may take the form of a further qualification (e.g. NEBS Management Certificate/ILM Full Management Certificate, or City & Guilds Further and Adult Education Teachers Certificate), and confirmation of satisfactory performance in a supervisory or managerial role for applicants over 26 years of age.

Please note that photocopies of all relevant certificates should be submitted with the application form.

Applicants must provide evidence that they have performed competently in a relevant work environment. Achievements may take the form of an industrial qualification (e.g. an industry-recognised apprenticeship) or confirmation from a current or recent employer of at least five years' relevant employment, on headed paper.

What Post Nominals do you get with this and do you just need NVQ 3 or something from Cat B too? Its a bit vague!

Are VN or RVN even recognised PNs? I know MRCVS definitely is, but I checked on an official website and couldn't find VN or any of the ridiculously long ones like BSc VNPM!

In some other fields it is used as a way of 'proving' supervisory/managerial abilities, so would think it is the same for veterinary nursing. At the moment I don't know how recognised it would be in practice though.

That's all very well but as l forget to even use vn l find that is pointless to me. In fact l have often forgotton to use Mrs unless there is a box that you have to fill in l do not even use simple details.

In fact l am so bad that l would probably forget to even use my own name if it did not insist on the paperwork.

Hi Kezza,

I completed mine back in June. I submitted my CV along with photocopies of all certificates and proof of CPD (including RCVS record card). Also included a bit of blurb about my role in practice/ training etc and got my employer to write a letter of reccomendation to back it up. I think it cost around £120 to apply?
