Sorry But FFS SaskiaVN - this nurse is a bona fide recession-buster for cash-strapped practices. If she was a food stuff she'd be part of sainsbury's finest with the price tag of the value range.

Totally - but I'd book her as a locum in a heart beat - 5 nurses' cleaning power for the price of one. So brilliant I'd even deal with RIG just to employ her (or him)!

we hired an on call vet from oz and she was BAAAD!! she lived in the flat above the practice and would come down during the day to sedate dogs that were making a noise!

one day there were 4 dogs doing the usuall howling etc and she sedated one, tied another to a desk in accounts office, put a recovering dog in the OUTSIDE run and took the fourth upstairs with her and locked it in her bathroom!! without telling a soul!

needless to say with that and the 'missing' controlled drugs, she was out!!

my stories arent as impressive as yours, have worked with vets and nurses who would lie about doing checks/or doing them properly.the vet was the senior partner and would say she checked the animal but the meds would still be on the cage and nothing written up. we used to leave for example a small piece of paper balanced on kennel door that would be knocked off if she had opened it..........it was still there.

Also people stealing things, going through own belongings etc

Lordy! I must have had a sheltered career untli earlier this year. Only have one weirdo to report. New girl with no exp. In the four months she worked for us. Worked really hard and I was impressed for the first couple of weeks. After that, it was excuse after excuse why she couldn't come into work. Three week migraine anyone? The number of miscarriages she had changed as to which day you spoke to her on. Ranged from two to seven to eighteen!

We had a locum who stole money from all the nurses and when confronted she just went upstairs, packed her bags and left without saying a word. She was really really weird!

I've seen my fair share of odd people working in practice too and heard lots of reports from other staff members.

Had a nurse who lived above the practice with two dogs and a cat, was so disgusting when she left we had to throw everything out and rip all flooring. She regularly blocked the toilet and the drains
Had drugs go walkabout, money go missing, nurses who overclaim overtime and mileage and lie about doing inpatient checks.
Locums who turn out not to be qualified.
Previous staff members who have eating disorders and compulsive disorders which meant they scrubbed the practice from top to bottom with a toothbrush!!

Have our fair share of mad clients too- had one who asked for diazepam for her 3 dogs for fireworks who then took them as an overdose along with her own diazepam prescribed by her doctor.
She, along with one other are almost certainly suffering from munchhousens (sp?) by proxy.

Not surprised nurses go mad considering our working conditions!!

I have worked in quite a few practices over a good few years, and never come accross so many 'characters'! Or maybe I have and not realised it! Or been blind to it! Or just totally oblivious to it!!! There have been some stories to tell but not quite as strong as yours......

Have worked with a few 'characters' over the years - my other half always says nothing would surprise him about the veterinary world but I have to say his ears might pop hearing about your colleagues!
