If you're a BVNA member then you can get cheap breakdown cover with the AA

Im with RAC, they have always turned up within the hour when I have broken down.

I recently added my hubbie to my cover and they wanted to charge me an extra £60. I pointed out that I could get it cheaper if I started from new online. Reminded them that I had been with them nearly 20yrs, with that they agreed to add hubbie at no extra cost to the end of the year. After that it would only be a extra £28!

Not sure how they make these sums add up- Maybe they just pick a figure out of their head depending on how friendly you are?

What annoyed me was i've been with them for 2 years and never used them, yet they still increased the cost that much! I phoned today and they put it back to same cost as last year, but before the end of the phone conversation it cut off and i kept trying to ring back but couldn't get through, there must have been something going on with their phones. Think i'll look at AA tonight and see how much they quote.

I had to use my mum's RAC recently when I couldn't get the key to turn in the ignition. Took them 2 and a half hours to come out!! The guy was really nice though and fixed it long term so it wouldn't happen again.

I have to say that I'm with Charlotte on the AA thing. I've got the same cover and they've always been great with me. I think you get to call them out up to five times in one years cover before they start reassessing costs and such. Great for those us with bangers!

I had a windscreen smash on the M40 one day, the guy came to rescue me, towed the car to the garage and detoured for lunch as I was starving! There was noone at the windscreen place when we got there so he stayed with me until someone arrived, fixed my screen and then showed me the way back to the motorway. He was a nice guy and I felt totally safe in his company. His shift had ended just as we arrived at the garage and he reckoned he couldn't find a better reason for some overtime than babysitting a damsel in distress!

Bless him, he really was my 4th emergency service!

I get home visit roadside rescue and will collect me from anywhere and take me home. They usually give a discount if you are a new customer they did with me.

Go through a cashback website like www.gmtvcashback.co.uk I got my RAC membership for £33 instead of £75 and then they gave me cash back of £17.50, then when my insurance was due, I saved £155 going with RAC because I was a member. Now get my insurance fo £17 instead of £32. Definitely shop around. Be prepared to cancel this membership & start up as a new member as they get better deals.

That's a lot!! I took mine out at The Royal Highland Show and got him down from £148 to £28!! Just shows you how low they can actually go!
