Dammit, Calder decided that they no longer taking students for work experience. Have not heard from the Head Nurse in Huddersfield, last i heard her practice manager was going to think about it and let her know as soon as possible but that was a week ago. Have emailed her and sent her pm's but no answer. Want to cry with frustration. I know i'm a hard worker, loyal, don't mind the messy jobs etc but how can i prove that to others when they won't even give me a chance. Sorry for the whinge, but this getting me down now.

calder also have a surgery in huddersfield - it was where i worked most of the time and the vets, nurses and receptionists there were fab!

i would definitely give them a try - if huddersfield is within easy travelling distance try ringing there first - 01484 429404

i'm a bit ashamed that i had to google the number - used to be able to recite it in my sleep!!!

Am waiting for a Head Nurse from Huddersfield to get back to me early next week, she might have a placement for me if her practice manager will ok it. Really hope he/she does as the practice is only a 10 min walk from the train station and it would be almost perfect, location-wise. If not then i'll defo give Calder a call.

I have worked for Calder - excellent group, and they have quite a few branch surgeries - might be worth asking them

Have you tried Abbey House in Morley??? I kno there is a train station not far from the practice, large hospital you'd gain a lot of experience (louise has worked there) also What about Calder vets in Dewsbury????

I live in Knottingley and rely on public transport so basically i can get to wherever trains can get me reasonably quickly (by which i mean an hour or so tops). I study at Wakefield college (the central campus) so i can get to central Wakefield and central Leeds easily enough. For places further afield i'd have to do some research to find where they are and how i'd get there.

Small animal practice is what i'm really interested in. Need a placement one day a week (Tues) for 2 years, at which point my course ends and hopefully by then my work placement would love me enough to offer me a full-time trainee position with them.

Thanks Louise, will try The Croft. Vets 4 Pets are already full, or at least that's what they told me.

Didn't know that Dogs Trust had their own veterinary clinic, so i'll try there too, thanks Maisie.

Have been working at a boarding kennels for the past year and whilst they're lovely people and they're more than happy to be my placement, i really would like one in a vets.

You could always try animal rescue centres to get some more experience. Dogs Trust in Leeds have a veterinary clinic on site so may be worth trying?

I did some work experience at croft house a small practice just off leeds road if thats close to you, was small but got a chance to see and learn more than I think you would in other practices.

You could try the larger practices but you will probably find that they prefer not to take work experience on. What about the vets for pets have you tried them?
