As you know, henri arrived a week ago from Cyprus and he's settled really well in every way except for one - my cats!
When he came, he wouldn't eat for several days as he'd been fed on human food so I did everything by the book, food down

Re: Training help with Henri please?

Thanks both of you. He's getting used to going in the puppy crate for short periods and will settle in it now so I'm going to move that into the living room tomorrow and try him in there so the cats can come and go. The muzzle is also worth a try so might well get one next week. I know it's just a case of time and patience but I guess because this is all new to me and I've upset the balance for my kitties that I'm just finding it hard. It's only been a week after all and these things can take months I suppose but I'm not very good in the self confidence stakes when trying new things and it helps to have someone to talk to when you wonder whether you're going about things the right way!

Re: Training help with Henri please?

I agree with Caro.

My greyhound Saskia was the exact same with my cat when she first came. I had to muzzle her and put the cats inside when she was going out for a run.

Somehow though, she learned to accept the cats through getting used to them. She can now live quite happily with me in the house in evenings with my rabbit, Tabitha. I never would have thought this possible that a greyhound and a rabbit could live together.

It just goes to show you what is possible with patience and acceptance.

Occassionally, Saskia will salivate and tremble when she is out loose and sees a cat, but the cats know not to go too near and then she is fine again.

Thats all I can offer Dippy, but with patience and perserverance, it will all come good in the end. Good luck

Re: Training help with Henri please?

Get him used to the muzzle before he see the cats so he does not rsealise that is there because of them.

Re: Training help with Henri please?

I would use a baskerville muzzle on him during intros and when the cats are likely to come in not a micki l hate them anyhow but he can still nip. It means if you do loose control then he can not hurt them with teeth and also they will fast learn with a muzzle he can not nip.

Re: Training help with Henri please?

Sorry i can't offer any advice...Jack is focused on chasing cats too!
