You should do really as this is considered monitoring. If there was a valid reason why it couldn't be done (i.e nobody to help if it was a fractious patient, or the vet had requested not to) you could still write the case but explain why this wasn't carried out.

Can anyone help/does anyone know: For the cat/dog case log - am I able to use a dog that we didn't do TPR on as this is mentioned in the monitoring part of the case log?

I just wanted to get started on at least one

How long ago were the cases in? I know my student was advised not to use anything more than two weeks ago, not sure if this is 'official' though. Getting started is the most difficult thing but once you've finished your first case you will find the rest a lot easier.

It doesn't help that I've not had the change to speak to a tutor and that my assessor is off sick at the moment. I just need help getting started.

Does anyone know if we can use past patients that have been and gone? I have a couple in mind for the cat/dog & exotic cases - that way I could start making notes now on my day off.

hey hun I did the ANA and I got sheets with mine with introduction etc im sure I did. Start from the beginning and itl flow. Mine was through correspondence too and I thought it was great x

i know exactly how you feel. im doing the ana course but as a correspondence course so when i got my case logs book i froze!!

its hard to get started but once you do one case log the rest will just flow. ive managed to do mine alone at home. im just a little stuck on the zoonotic case log at the moment

get started you will be fine

Go through your syllabus first to see what is covered for each section and then try and add points from there into your cases. If you find it more straight forward to write in bullet points then do so, it is often clearer to make each point this way.

For example your hospitalisation one can cover:

accommodation-size, materials used, cleaning protocol

patient care-TPR, feeding/water regimes, why was that diet beneficial/if NPO, why this was, grooming, environmental enrichment, assisting with meds (I say assisting as technically ANAs are not meant to give medication though many do in practice). If iv fluids were used, write about the monitoring you did.

H+S- what you did when cleaning kennel (gloves/apron etc), check kennel for any obvious damage, where you disposed waste

Did you write up hospital forms? Make a photocopy to show your involvement (initial/highlight the work you did).

They look daunting initially, but once you start it does become easier! Check the BVNA site as I think you can still download the case logs and guidance sheets from there.

I was exactly the same - until I went to my mentor and just asked how to lay it out. Once I had done one I was fine. Is there anyone you can ask?

I have just started my level 2 and struggling how to process my appendices!!! Its like starting essays for the first time.
