Bah. I think scottish water is expensive! I was on a water meter in Lincoln - and paid £28/month with 3 adults living in the house. Ayr wanted to charged me £44-50/month (yikes). Button yours sounds horrendous - I am sure that there must be a mistake.

£16 a month!???? Oh my god you lucky duck! I can't believe how different it can be. £65 a month we pay. I think that's way too much for a small one bed flat :(

I've quite my job too so will be jobless at the end of the month.

They are sending someone out to have a look, they seem pretty sure the reading is a mistake so hopefully my payments will say as they are!
Never thought about photographic evidence! Will get a pic in the morning.

im on a water meter in terraced 2 bed housing assoc house, just me and my teenage daughter i pay £16.25 a month!!!! my parents hav just gone onto a water meter and say its far cheaper now!!!!

I was paying 53 per month in a 1 bed flat - I am now paying 20 per month in a 2 bed bungalow

If the panel is full of condensation it may well have a fault on worth getting it checked take a couple of photos of it.

Ive just had my water statement and my payments have gone up from £26 to £91 a month

Rang them up as there has been no change in our water usage and that seemed ridiculous. They said yes it was v high consumption for two people and would look into the matter. Said its either the meter been read wrong, the wrong meter been read or a faulty meter.
I tried to check meter myself but couldnt read it as the panel is full of condensation. So looks like whoever 'read' it made it up completely
You would think they would check it out when they have such an increase in usage
If I hadnt rung to query it they would have carried on taking out that money and Id have been none the wiser! They have put my payments at £30 until it is resolved!

We pay about £30 squids a month but only pay for 10 months of the year, so check your bill. It may be that this year it is a bit more then you have a break and it drops down. If you live in the south west it may just be that your bills are that expensive. My bro lives in Cornwall and because the water companies are repsonsible for the beaches, esturies and rivers (or something to that effect) the water bills are huge! Sorry.

that sounds well steep is it worth you getting a water meter??? we pay £120 approx a year ( sorry to rub it in) i think they have something wrong with our bill but hey im not saying owt to the company

Do you pay a service charge at all?

We pay a service charge to a housing association who own the lease and I think that some of that goes towards something to do with the sewerage. Might be worth checking you arent paying twice.

See ours is only a one bed and we don't even have a bath. The people upstairs pay more - they pay £20 a week!!! ARGHHHH, what's going on? If I'd of known moving to our new place would be this expensive I would of stayed in the horrible shared house. It's made what was lovely and exciting it to a massive worry now

I have paid £40 upwards for everything combined a month for ages then recently the water company who supplies me decided to do a single person discount and it is only now that my bill has dropped to £22 a month

Thanks. We live in an old one bed ground floor flat. It's not very big. We've been charged £170.93 for water and £270.89 for sewerage - up to March 2010. The water charge I can handle so not sure if going on to a meter would help? It's the sewerage bill that's the killer.

Really stressed now. I've been reading that most people pay about £20 a month....

sometimes companies are separate from water and sewerage, sometimes it's the same company that supplies/disposes of both.

Nomally water and sewerage are based on the rateable value of the property from, I think, 1998 bandings. If the property is new it comes under the latest banding which is likely to be higher as it is based on value of the property.

You could opt for metered watering if there's only two of you and you don't use it for garden watering,paddling pools, lots of baths etc.
Then sewerage remains as rated and water is billed for usage.

I'd have thought it a bit steep, depending on where you live.

we pay around £100 a month or a bit less for both water and sewerage unmetered in a large 3 bedroom house, with 1 bed annexe - so technically rated as two together, and a band F house.

Check what your neighbours bands and rates are too see if they tally up or not.
