I am really interested in teaching veterinary nursing, I know (as we all do!) how tough it is to train as a VN and want to give something back to the veterinary nursing profession and I really enjoy helping the trainees with they're practicles

Re: Teaching veterinary nursing

Teaching is something that I am interested in too, and I've contacted our local college that runs nursing courses who often require 'as and when' lecturers. At some point I'd like to do the CertEd and this would mean I would hopefully get the allocated hours I'd need to do the course. I was advised though that some places that teach nursing will often allow prospective lecturers to sit in on lectures and possibly take a class if you are wanting to gain teaching experience.

I would agree with Ian that CAW may be a good start. Good Luck!

Re: Teaching veterinary nursing

We are currently looking for a instructor (teacher) at The North Highland College. We did advertise in vet times a couple of months ago, but had little response. Largely due to our location I think, as we on the very north coast of scotland. We are looking for a full time permanent member of staff, so would require relocation.

Not sure if full time teaching is what you are looking for. Obviously some VNCP's (veterinary nurse course providers) have part time lecturers, and you may be able to do this in addition to a practice job, however you will find many VNCP's are looking for full time staff, so it depends weather you are ready to give up practice or not?

Basically all you need to be considered by most VNCP's would be qualified and listed/registered, preferably with experience in assessing and enthusiasm. Oh and we require a driving licence, to allow you to visit practices. Every thing else I needed I did when I got here and it was paid for by the college. So I did my IV qualification and gained an advanced certificate in teaching veterinary nursing.

Give me a shout if your interested, but I wish you luck. Wherever you decide to go teaching is a rewarding career choice (with less vomit and faeces)

Re: Teaching veterinary nursing

I would suggest ringing the college of animal welfare as they will probably know where to point you.
