I got Lukas renewal through today, he used to be 9.50 a month with petplans life policy an d one month free which I thought at the time was good! Pet Plan DO NOT premium load if you claim but others do so worth asking the question before you take a policy out, have known peoples premiums shoot up to stupid amount.

My old terrier is still with Pet Plan, claiming approx £70 month for last 4 years, he is now 16 years old and new renewal come through for £25 month so still well worth it for him. I also have my puppy with them which is twenty something a month but have a higher level of cover for him at the moment - if you think your premium is a lot check what level of cover you have.

I am wary of other companies as most now not covering any dental treatment, many do not cover behavioural problems etc etc, at leat with pet plan you know they will pay up and reasonably quickly. Also many companies really hike the premium when they are old, I don't think mine is bad considering his age and problems - his excess is now 20% but still well worth it.

Re: Pet insurance!!

Hi,

I have 6 cats all with Halifax extra policies. my eldest is 6 and has had exclusions for gastroenteritis and posining. The other 5 never claimed. The 2 eldest cats are about £7 each along with the youngest who I just insured. Toby (my avatar pic) is 18 months and is a semi long haired. I spoke to a manager at halifax because his excess had risen to £75 form £50 there was nothing they could do about the excess but as he is of no particular breed they changed him to moggie on the policy and saved me £22 a year so I now pay £10.31.

Its worth asking them about these things. I worked selling these policies yy telesales while waiting to get into a TP. You would be surprised at how many policies are sold out of one small department ie Argos, Halifax, RSPCA, Buddies, PDSA to name just a few and it is not these companies that set the premium it is the underwriters which will vary them according to which company they are representing.

Hope this helps

Julie - if the elbow thing was a while ago I would ask them to review it and I would put a claim in for the incurin, going right back to the beginning. Some companies will pay out for up to a year's worth of treatment so it may be well worth doing. It would also cover you for any further investigations.

Some companies will refuse to pay out on treatment if you haven't told the insurance company that its being treated for something different. We've got one patient who has eye issues but because the owners failed to tell about ear treatment, the insurance company has now excluded this. Sometimes its worth putting in a claim even though its not over the excess, just so they know that its happened.

Premiums do go up every year and supposedly nothing to do with the amount of claims you have had.

Re: Pet insurance!!

I pay £14.21 a month for Jack with Pet Plan with an £80 excess (with practice discount). He's two years old so haven't claimed (yet!). The renewal is in oct so will see how much it's gone up. £35 is a hell of a lot to pay !!! I'm not really sure what i'd do. I don't think i'd change, but that is SO much money! Sorry not much help!
