I use the superdrug or the mothercare baby toothbrushes, put a piece of string on the end of the brush. Push the toothpaste well into the bristles and dangle the brush like a toy or trail it across the floor (cleanable surface) until they decide to play/chase it. Once they have grabbed the brush keep up a bit of gentle tension - I have one cat that likes to chew the end of the brush which does an excellent job of keeping his teeth clean and the other - well he needs a bit more encouragement. It does work both of mine have good teeth. One of mine will come and find me every single day (sometimes more than once a day if he gets chance) - the other one well we manage at least a couple of times a week or whenever he wants to play - the important thing is they both enjoy it and it hasnt become something they dislike at all.

I did also try some of the dental toys for cats and putting some of the toothpaste in them. It did work very well but then one of them decided to chew off the tail on one of the 'mice' and eat it and I decided it was too much of a risk

Re: best type of kitten food?

Jack LOVES his toothpaste! Trying to brush his teeth with some still left on the brush is a challenge!

Re: best type of kitten food?

unfortunately, mine ar enot that good - one runs under the side board and the other tries to hide in a corner of the kitchen and escape whenever a door is opened! (I only do the other so they are treated the same and it would be inevitable that we would have to do her as well the following yeaR!) but she was still determined that i would not have to clean her teeth if i changed her onto biscuits. she had no idea but would not listen to when i explained the need for the teeth cleaning of them! They have now really learnt (at age 9 and 10 ) and they will eat what ever is given to them within about 24 hours for 1 tin. (with no biscuits!) yet i was told our cats were fussy by a member of staff at the pet store when i went to buy toothpaste for them as one PREFERED dry food and one PREFERED wet food. I got told i was not feeding them right and making them fussy by providing what they want! I could not believe it. I nearly toldf them i work at a vets and that she was wrong but was in a bit of a rush! But to have the cheak to tell me i am not looking after them right for the past 10 years! they should not be able to provide advice like that just to try and sell more food!

Re: best type of kitten food?

My Niamh loves tescos own brand food! But only the pouches in gravy which our local tesco metro has stopped selling boo!!
I certainly couldnt afford to feed the very expensive food, I think my cats do well enough on the tesco cans and they really do like it. Sometimes, if I am feeling flush - which isnt too often lolol I buy a few Sheba pouches.

My dogs also eat the tesco own brand dog food and they get Beta or Pal dry to go with it. Rosie gets the Tesco finest or pal cans just because she can sometimes be fussy and she is so old now, I would prefer to spend that little bit more on her to spoil her lol

Re: best type of kitten food?

hi! We used to feed ours on the whiskas kitten food but found that is was apparently very rich and gave all the kittens at work D++ (I think thye were just feeding too much!!) but we are slowly moving onto hills kitten food. as for biscuits, we feed natures best (Not sure exactly what company) kitten biscuits. this si good because they will also be able to carry on with an adult variety of natures best

the fact that she is still so young, if you choose to feed her dry food, I would leave food in the bowl all the time that she can feed little and often.

I have three cats, they are adult and I feed them Hills Feline Adult Light as well as Tesco own brand cat food cans, they do really well on both though they consider the Hills as a treat. I alternate each bag I buy between chicken, rabbit and tuna and they always go crazy for it and have never had any problems.

If I were to have a kitten, I would feed Hills kitten dry along with Tesco own brand kitten food, it has worked well for me so far.
