10,000 after tax is actually pretty good for an SVN - assuming you don't work 68 hour weeks very often!

Im on svn wages (the practice wont tell us what we actully earn per hour) and i earn about £10,000 per annum post tax and i work anything from 40 to 68 hour weeks.... thank goodness cheap rent when living with parents!!

I'm 2 years qualified (7 years exp) & get 15k....

But am in South Wales, so wage isn't that bad!

I am qualified ten years now and am on ninteen thousand eight hundred and fifty pounds per annum. Have no idea how to work that out in rate per hour.

excuse the words, computer not very well at moment and wont type figures or exclamation mark etc.

this is the best paid i have ever been, i work 5 days per week mon-fri and one in five weekends

in my pracitce im on 4.80 an hour after tax. i dont get paid over time i take off the hours in lue instead. so i try to build them up to take a day off... tho if i do im just making more work for myself as i wud ave twice as much work to do the next day

Theoretically, i would be getting 4.90 an hour as a first year SVN with my work although not yet recievd a pay packet as a SVN but had been told this by my account person at work. will be working a 40 hour week as a SVN but will also be working every Sat until i start them offically as a SVN so that would be another 6 hours. not yet worked out what my yearly rate would be but not too worried! i will also get overtime from that but they are reluctant to give me that during the week as i work so many hours and 6 days anyway!

I am on just above 23K for av 45 hour week plus management duties. been qual 1 year and have a degree. On top of this I can earn overtime, which this year looks set to be about another 4K, plus bonuses (if we earn them!). This is a night job though, but overall the wages are good compared to day rates!

the BVNA had a survey that they done - its about 4 or 5 years old now, but that might shed some light on your wage...

They should do another one - it would be interesting to see the change a few years has made...

I work about 45 hours a week, as a dept head and i'm on £17.5 - its SO much lower than I want, but its not bad for 2 year qualified... I'm aiming for about £23-25! Wishful thinking I think!

on £8.50 an hour currently and have been since starting job 6mths after qualifying. do about 43hrs a week but get no extra for nights or weekends. Also lots of late evenings. This is really good for this part of the country and it works out quite well, about £17,500 a year (pre tax - so not much after that!!) This is one of the reasons why I am leaving the profession - it probably won't get any better for me

As an SVN I started on £4.80 an hour, which increased to £6.20 an hour by the time I left (9months post qualifiaction) working an average of 40 hours a week. We used to get £15 for being on call over the weekend (we could be off site but no further than 20 mins away) and £10 an hour if we were called in. Currently on 17.5K for 8 hours a day 5 days a week with 28 days hol, not bad! Its a big job and sole charge 24/7 so they definitely make me work hard for it but it's pretty good deal!! I do 1:4 weekends at the local vet hospital on £10 an hour to boost the wages each month as my rent has just gone up. I think location has a big role to play in wages, as does the attitude of the boss and the size of the practice. Nurses are gradually getting more recognition financially for all the work we do, but I feel sorry for any student nurse starting out and having to pay rent etc on student wages. Just had a work experience girl from here apply for a job that was 4 and 2 days alternate weeks and her 2 shifts at Next paid more than that job. She got offered it, and turned it down based on finances.

I'm a qualified and graduated last yr - started locuming and was on £10-13 per hour so got very used to good pay packets but then went full-time and dropped to £9 per hour... but i'm sole charge so do all night checks and overtime at this branch so can easily add on 3night checks and average of 5hrs overtime a week, so adds up quickly! Been looking at trying to get an equine training place but the pay is back to minimum wage, despite being quailifed and with a degree!!

I'm a student on minimum wage in the middle of London. It's getting really tough financially - my rent is pretty low but the result is a house in serious disrepair. It's really been getting me down lately as I have 11 GCSEs, Biology and Chemistry A-levels and a degree (albeit in a subject which is nothing to do with being a VN!) but still I am left worrying at the end of the month whether I can pay for food. I don't want to have to consider moving out of London to train as I love my practice and the staff there, and I feel that if I stick it out there I can make myself a great (and hopefully well-paid) career for myself.

Ah, my first post wasn't exactly merry was it! It's good to know that there are good wages to look forward to. Just got to stick with it.

You either need to compare hourley rates, or else don't forget to include your normal weekly hours total when stating what you get paid. For example, someone on £7.00 per hour on a 35 hour week would earn £12,700 per year, but if you are doing 40 hours a week (not unusual in this job) you would get £14,500. Just adding in 1 hour overtime each week at time and a half would then increase that total to £15,000. So just stating your yearly total isn't very illuminating!

And to be able to leave your work at work and not carry on thinking about cases when you get home! Often find myself texting the other nurses to find out how things are doing on my days off and weekends.

To be fair his job involves him driving to various companies and sorting out there IT for them so he's not based in one place and he quite likes his job.

im on 16K but this is with my extra (hospitalisation and call outs) I personally think this is pants but iv heard that this area is the worst paid in the country (north northumberland).

my bf is on more than me and it really annoys me after doing college etc

I think the main problem is that while we remain unrecognised because 99% of practices are privately owned and run provided they pay you above minimum wage they they are working above the law
