Have a little stray in work at the moment, just brought in this morning. He is just getting his adult teeth so I estimate him to be 4-5 months old.
His breed seems to be something along the lines of boxer/great dane cross.
It is just so sad to see such a young puppy that feels this behaviour is normal. I will hopefully get some pics posted soon.

Re: Help needed - v nervous stray
I am of the belief the dog has ran away due to beatings and fear. Of course it is going to be aggressive, wouldnt we all if we thought it would ensure we were left alone and not beaten?

This isnt a dog that can go to just anyone, he needs to go to a home where his new owner knows how to deal with an aggressive dog and how to treat and behave around them.

Our svn, who is hopefully taking him on, had rescued a springer once of a similar story and he lived to a ripe old age. She knows what she is doing and what she is taking on.
Sorry if I offended you. As I said, the dog's previous treatment will have caused the aggression. That doesn't mean always mean that changing the owner will stop it though, although I obviously hope it will.

It sounds like it is doing really well - I'm glad.

Re: Help needed - v nervous stray

I look forward to seeing a pic! Glad to hear he's a happier puppy dog now

Re: Help needed - v nervous stray
has she got any nice doggy friends who has a nice dog to build confidence up?

will be a slow process! I walk dogs for the local rescue kennels with my bull mastiff coz she couldnt give a stuff if the other dog has problems. I usually take the difficult dogs or aggressive (with other dogs) dogs as mine wont fight back.

Re: Help needed - v nervous stray
He was outside in the runs today, huddled in the corner. I came outside, sat down, away from him, pretending to mind my own business when he came over, sat down beside me and licked my arm. I responded by being casual and 'chatting' to him in a friendly voice without making contact.

After a few minutes had passed, and he realised I wasnt a threat, he let me pet him on top of his head. I know when you have an extremely nervous dog, let them approach you, make no sudden movements etc.

One of the girls at work is very keen to rehome him and afford the time and patience needed to make him the happy dog he should be.
I really hope that it all works out for him 'cause it appears that he's had it tough in his short life. If your friend takes time with him, as you have, then there is a chance that he will come good as he is still young.

Good luck with him and thanks for careing.
