Due to my current situation my dog lives with my mum. I'm now 5 months into my job covering maternity leave and looking at the possibility that I will be job hunting again in the coming months. My landlord has said that the dog can live in the flat (already allowed me to have my 3 ratties in there, what a sweetheart!) so long asshe's not left for long periods of time, I think he's worried about property damage etc. Also I don't want to leave her on her own all day as she's used to people being around. I'm just wondering how common it is that people are allowed to take their dogs to work with them? Mum is happy to have her (in fact, I'm not sure she'll ever give her up!) and it's probably the best place for her, but I'm just looking at all the options as I miss her terribly! Any ideas?

Move to Yorkshire and apply for the job at Ashfield House. They allow their staff to take their dogs to work.

I take mine to work/college with me every day (various locations) as one of my would DEFINITELY do damage +++ I have a barjo dog cage (lockable) and leave them in the car with the tailgate up. Sometimes I can put them in a kennel/run but, to be honest, my dogs much prefer to be in the car and consider it to be their den.

However, if I had the option to have mum look after them then I would take it with bells on!

Re: Dogs at Work

We've got a practice cat who lives in the nurses flat and my little terrier is terrified of her!

Re: Dogs at Work

[quote user="xXx Cat xXx"]

wow!! think it would be chaos if we had cats in too!! something i have to admit i'd never really thought of is cats coming to work!! suppose they get lonely too. think i would get laughed at if i suggested it- most of the dogs that come with staff aren't all that cat friendly!!

Re: Dogs at Work

[quote user="FINNIGAN"]

We get that sometimes too!
I take my dog Jack to work with me every day as we live on a busy estate and he upsets my neighbours by barking at everything and anything that moves outside! He generally gets a kennel as he's better behaved in there but he goes in office when we have potentially infectious cases in or are busy. Hes nearly seven now and has been coming to work since he was 14 weeks so just settles down and goes to sleep. Except when our nvs driver comes and he really doesnt like him. Im quite lucky that work are really relaxed about staff pets and I can leave him there any time Im likely to be out the house for a long time.
It definately makes my life easier being able to take him with me, not sure it would be fair for me to have a dog otherwise.

Re: Dogs at Work

Hi,

We've just had a brand new hospital built and it's huge!
I think it would be nice if practices provided some sort of outdoor kennelling for staff to keep their dogs in. The QMH at the RVC do and I think it's a really good idea.

Re: Dogs at Work

[quote user="Kimbo1985"]

None of the nurses where I work take their dogs in because we don't really have the space but one of the vets does and it gets on everyones nerves. She barks randomly and I think people think it's a bit unfair that he's allowed to bring his dog in and no one else is. I think you need to be sure everyone is happy before allowing staff to bring in their own dogs. I know I would really love to be able to bring mine in though.

I understand that Kimbo, and it is something that I worry about, but if you regularly ask people if they are OK with it, and everyone says they are, what more can you do? If people can't say to your face if they are not happy about it, then .........???

I think unless I can find that 'perfect' position doglet is going to be staying with mum. She was a joint dog and then when I moved away to take this job (an opportunity not to be missed). Now it kinda feels like she's mum's dog and I'm a visitor.............probably just me being silly as I still get smothered fluff when I go home and she still responds to my commands! When you don't have them around any more you feel like part of you is missing (or at least I do). She is an akita cross lurcher and 23kg so not really an easy size to kennel daily. I know in my heart of hearts that the best place for her (unless things change drastically), where she'll be happiest, is in Cornwall with mum, just hard adjusting to being a part time feature in her life...........................

Re: Dogs at Work

My last job I used to take Sammy dog with me to work (got given him by a randomer he had seperation anxiety) and he used to spend his time in the staff room. He loved it as it ment he wasn't on his own and the other staff sued to take him out for walks if I couldn't

Re: Dogs at Work

Hi Gypsy!
