I don't think there actually is a gap to be honest, especially with the smaller practices. Unless they are actually looking to recruit more staff - which many aren't right now due to cost etc.

Presumably the 2nd years are now VNs and still working at the same practices and the 1st years have become 2nd years and are still working in practice!!

Many places train and keep staff rather than train, qualify, move on and take on more students - if you see what i mean. I guess there is natural progression - people fancy a change and move on and a trainee is taken on. That seems to be what happens in the TP's i've worked. Hope that makes sense

just bumping this up for everyone - and wondering now that all exam results are out, how many TP's are actually taking on new first year students to fill the gap caused by those passing their exams and becoming second years. (I've only spotted a small handful of adverts since the end of August result date).
Is the situation better or worse this year than last?
The TP's I've spoken to in the last few months all seem to be saying they are not expecting any intake until 2010.....

That is a shame. Thanks anyway. Yes have tried Pet Doctors i worked within the practise in SElsey during my two years at college. I have asked them to keep there ears open but still no luck! I will keep trying though thanks alot for your help :)

I think the Windsor one has gone I'm afraid. Have you tried Pet Doctors? They have surgeries in that area and may be able to help?

It took me years to find one. I actually ended up working as reception staff first! It might be worth checking round for a volunteer position or even a kennel hand job. This way you can get to know some people in the industry and get your foot in the door. Also please don't take this the wrong way, but it might be worth brushing up on your english/grammar/spelling for your letters to practices. Some will frown upon poor grammar and spelling. You'll find a practice someday if you are persistant, everyone has a tough time at first. :) Good luck!

I live in Selsey its so hard trying to get a job here im pulling my hair out!!!

Oh great what practise is that in Windsor?? If it comes with accommodation then that would be great.

And yes have been on the RCVS on the TP section and have writen to all the practises and still no luck :(

Whereabouts are you? Hsve you had a look at the TP section on the RCVS site so you can send letters/CVs to local practices? If you're anywhere near Windsor there is an SVN job going at a practice there with accommodation.
