I'm not sure why but we had a couple of dogs in (from the same place) and the staffie got over it in the usual time, but the Rottie was struggling, so our vet did some research and Rotties seem to suffer more with it. So maybe the black and tan thing does make a difference!

It was 8 wks old, it had spent all day Sunday after being collected, running round , madly(again !!!) with their friends adult dog, and from Sunday evening since, hadn't eaten anything.

We admitted it for fluids/blds/hosp/ xrays etc with a view to a possible fb etc - some vomitting (bile), no diarrhoea. Wednesday, after 24hrs IVFT we ex-lapped it- no fb, kept it in till Monday, improved each day with a bad bout of Diar on Thursday and Sat, but by Monday was brght++++, normal puppyish etc, all ok- went home as well....... We got a phone call from the lab today to say that it was parvo +!!! - faecal sample sent off after diarr on Saturday.

Definately not a classic case of parvo, which is scary I think. The puppy has so far recovered very well, considering its stress factors eg new home, g/a etc.

We isolated but still have concerns about other patients in at the same time..... but what can you do?

Black and tan breeds, ie dobbies rots etc, staffs affenpinscher(sp?)

Their immune system is not as well developed as other breeds thus they usually need another vaccine around the 16wk mark, as well as their normal primary vaccinations

AS a Rot owner I knew this, but because of the outbreak I am surprised at the amount of vets who dont know this!! anyway that is by the by.

The vet I spoke to recommends a vaccine at 16 wks for all breeds who are in the list. And also more so if therir are confirmed cases within the area.

I will put up more info later
