Thought i would start a new post
After reading all the comments about lots of long hours and shift patterns you all do i was just wondering how many of you actually have pets of your own and do you struggle to find time for them?

I walk him before work, in my lunch time and after work. He settles quite happily in a kennl or outside in dog run if weather nice, then has the run of the surgery in between surgery hours usually approx 2 hours each day, when he loves to meet anyone coming in for medication etc!! He has settled into this routine really well as he has done it since a puppy. I also have a fabulous dog sitter/walker who will go to him at home if I have to leave him there, or if I am busy at work and don't get time to out at lunchtime will come and pick him up from work to take him out. She has a key to my house and is a god send as I can always call her if unexpectedly stuck when out etc.

Re: Finding the time for your own pets!?

I have the most handsome greyound in the world!! His name is Ranger - he is a gorgeous orange brindle colour.

We can't be miracle workers (although some of us try)our pets have to drop down the pecking order for a while. Now the children are that bit older, the cats are back to first in the food chain.

The payback, for having pets in my life, is that feeling I get when the cats appear apparently from nowhere when I get out of my car and walk along with me to the house. I know they are just after their food but it feels as if I'm wanted.

Of course the children do that too but as teenagers the response is sometimes a bit slower!

Re: Finding the time for your own pets!?

Luckily my Hubby works split shifts and we both work weekends, but rarely the same, so our 2 dogs never get left for more than 4-5 hrs and get 2 walks a day.

I work a mile from home so also come home most lunchtimes to let them out and see to our 4 cats (3 house cats, one goes out). Have tropical fish, Piranha, land snails and a gerbil so they do their own thing. My days off are spent cleaning out, feeding etc. House is now officially full and I am banned from bringing anything else home, until we move........

Re: Finding the time for your own pets!?

[quote user="Vicky C"]

When she's not around we're very lucky to have our nextdoor neighbour who doesn't work due to health reasons and she comes round with her own dog to let my two out and they all have a good run around in the garden together. Luckily I work three days a week as a lecturer in animal care and he is allowed to college with me. He loves the fuss and it teaches the students to respect the breed and not judge them by how the press percieves them. The two days a week I work in practice he has to go to my parents house while I'm at work!
