Used to run them for about 30 minutes, free urine multistix and BP in the consult. If needed the pet would be referred to the vet for discount consult, or if client wanted, discount bloods can be done during the nurse consult.

To follow on with these, renal/diabetic clinics also worked well providing the vets back you up. If they don't recommend clients to see you they won't work. These clinics weren't to replace the vet seeing the animal, instead to see the pet regularly but to keep checks on blood glucose/BP etc so if the vet needed to see the animal every 6 months for instance, the client would come in for the nurse check every 3 months to ensure everything is maintaining as it should. I used to love doing these clinics as you build up a real rapport with the client and pet, and may clients like having the opportunity to discuss issues with a nurse that they may not want to with the vet.

I could go on for some time about setting up and running nurse clinics but I'll stop here!

Re: nurses clinics

the dental clinics are run as either a preventative thing- usually post dental to check for any probs arising and keep an eye out for plaque build up etc. we alo will do dental clinics for those owners who feel their pets teeth aren't great. we give our advice of whether they would need a dental or just a form of dental care and give estimates of how much a dental may cost. we also discuss pre ga bloods and aftercare and get them booked in if needed. if teeth are really grotty then we nab the vet to prescribe ab's to start before they come in for the dental. we see our dentals 7days post op and every 3 months after that. this helps if owners have not taken aftercare products and 6m later we notice tartar build up- they then will generally take the toothbrush and logic!!

i do all of our puppy/behavioural stuff here including clicker training classes. i'm looking at some behavioural certs at the mo... have you done any or heard of any good ones??

Re: nurses clinics

What sort of dental clincis do you run??? Run similar to you but tend not to have certain name for them... if someone wants to see me then i tend to fit them in - a lot of the time they end up as a nurse chat on reception rather than an actual clinic as people come in saying 'i just wanted a bit of advice....' I do a lot of puppy/behavioural work and the other branches now refer everything to me - if its something thats going to take awhile or require repeat visitis then there is a small charge but often not. BP/microchip/bandage change/injection - we just charge the cost of doing so £20ish for each but not actual nurse time... Hope that makes sense and not to much waffle x x
