Surgical spirit is really good for getting cat pee smells out of furnishings, also puts them off doing it again if habitual.

Catsan do a new product called Catsan Smart. It's like an incontinence pad/litter tray liner all in one with Catsan inside it.

I've been using it for my lot for a while now and although it's slightly more expensive, the odour control is brill and the ease of cleaning the cat litter trays is brill. I also spray the sofa with feliway and the beds and have a plug in running to stop one of my cats inappropriate toileting that has resurfaced years after I thought I'd stopped it. Seems to be working a treat.

Put a box in the hall but be sure to clean the area first! put a puppy pad under it for accidents. :)

the smell out the carpet now cheers steph plus 3 plug in air freshnersaround the flat keeps the cat smells away and oh fi theres a thought! I might just try that!

vinegar in a small bowl/saucer is very good for getting rid of smells, not sure about cat pee though

You can always go to Ikea and get one off the under bed boxes they makes great litter tray for big cats

My tried and tested method of getting rid of the smell of cat pee is acetone.

Put some nail varnish remover in a bowl high up and it'll neutralise the smell. It just needs to be high enough so that any curious kitties can't investigate it. Good luck, there's nowt worse than the smell of cat pee in the morning. Well, there is but that's not up for discussion

My arthritic elderly cat used to miss the tray so we ended up getting him a large tray designed for potting up plants in from the garden centre.

currently I dont have a cat but I do prefer them with boofy faces and masculine bodies, we do neutering for a local shelter and get alot of un-neutered adult cats (they are handsome) however this isnt helpful as I have no tips!

using wood chip litter as thats the the rescue centre said they were using and didn't report any problems. We have one in the hall and one in the toilet so not sure if thats making him uncomfortable. It's the hall one which hes uses. We used to have an uncovered box but hes a long cat and even with a big tray he missed the box alot. I was thinking maybe get a bigger covered one as looking at him with the current one it does seem a little small when hes in it! But who knows he is quite a "strange" cat!!

Tried the soap and vodka and its worked great! Thanks!!

thanks steph, ye i tried having the two next to each other but he just found somewhere else to do it. He only uses this one litter box and i mean i clean it one day the next day its too "dirty" for him! It's an indoor litter tray so he rarely misses! We have a little mat under it the box tho for any misses! He has spells of it though where he does it alot then doesn't! Will try the vodka and soap powder thing! If not i will try natures mircale or nature off!

Have you tried putting one cover litter tray and one uncovered next to it? Or even changing litter? What sort of litter are you using? Where is the location of the boxes? Is it possible it's the placement of them that might be making him uncomfortable?

Most common testicular issue i have seen in male cats is retained testicles- but the are quite often young when they come in so often noticed at vaccination time or when they are coming in to be castrated and you go to check they have two - and then you swear cos there is is only one or sometimes none lol!

A. their very very healthy and never need the vets.

B. they're locked out in an outdoor pen so they can't eat the children.

C locked out in their own house so they don't eat the children or pee all over the house.

D. locked out with a pen with the children so they don't eat you.

E. at home living it up pissing everywhere and they have eaten the children and their owners and they can't drive themselves to the vets....

Quite a lot, they usually come in as strays.......... usually around breeding time, so they are not really strays, but have parked their backsides in some persons garden for the duration who think they are strays. We have had 4 in work this week already.

Can I ask Gillian, are there any statistics, or papers written on testicular issues? surely there is something.

Have you as a vet seen anything?
