Current role is a 40hr week, shifts are either 8-4.30 or 11-7.30. We work one Sunday morning in 4 from 9.30-11.30am (we have a nurse who chooses to work every Saturday which suits the rest of us but we used to do one Saturday in 4 as well prior to this arrangement). No ooh or on call.

present 8-4 10-18 11:30-19:30 no weekends ooh.

As a sole charge nurse I'm working Monday 8-5, Tuesday 8-5, Weds 8-2, Thurs 8-5, Friday 8-8 and if anything needs late checks i'm expected to do them - so if it needs 2hourly then thats me and then an 8hr shift the next day!!! NOt great but main branch don't seem to give one about the hours i work!

lol, def lots of variety there then! I suppose you just have to be prepared to work anything then really when deciding to train to be a VN !

it varys greatly

i have worked places where:

vets take phones, no overnight care unless life or death

as above but vet does care if required

vets take phones, nurse overnight care if required

emergency vets takes phones, no overnight care, place phones vets in emergency

as above but emergency vets takes all cases ie no on call

as above but vets do overnight care if required

as above but nurses do care if required

nurses take phones and sleep over

nurses take phones and work night shifts (24/7 nursing care)

a lot of variety out there, and varying shifts!

There is such a broad range of shifts to be honest!

Normal working hours would between 35 - 40hrs/wk plus weekend work and maybe even nights.

We are open between 8.30am and 7.30pm weekdays, nurses work between 8.00am and 10.00pm then the late nurse does on call for emergencies and inpatient care. She can sleep if nothing high dependancy in. Weekends we are open 8.30am-4.30pm saturday and 2-3pm sunday. Nurses work 9-5 both days then do on call for emergencies and inpatients.
All our shifts are 8 hr slots and are assigned to a particular area-
8-4 inpatients
8.30-4.30 theatre
9-5 consults/ reception
10-6 floating nurse
11.30-7.30 late nurse (takes over in patients/ ops)
7-10pm then on call- night nurse
