I know what you mean about the multiple choice questions, however I am grateful for them as I'm not very good a long answers.
Yes I agree multiple choice question format is good but only good when given a question with a definite factual, proven answer. The RCVS seem to be sneaking in all these questions about care plans and questions based on nothing scientific. A question like "which of these is not a steroid... milbemax, preds, metacam, synulox" That's a question that has a definite answer which is right or wrong. However a question like "Where on the indemendence dependence continuum do you place a cat who will only hand feed?" is a subjective question. You can't get a picture of how dependent an animal is from one sentence in an exam. I think thses sort of questions are unfair as you are not allowed to justify what your answer is.

And that diabetic question, I wanted to tick 3 answers!! This is what makes me think it was worded wrong as one of the options was not an option!!

Well good luck to everyone who did their theory, not long to results now :/ And anyone who fails I would never think they are bad at VNing as the RCVS exams seem to not really represent what we do and their communication skills... sending out letters like that! I'm really shocked. It's bad. Lots of luck to everyone who did them anyway, fingers crossed, sharps bin at the ready! :) xxx

Re: NVQ 3 Theory Results
not being funny here, but this seems to be a regular problem at the moment y doesnt anyone complain to the rcvs????
I have complained to RCVS over the phone when I phone to query the letter, however I'm not a very confidate person and find it difficult to express myself verbally. At the end of the day the RCVS are human and are just as likely to make mistakes as anyone else. My biggest complaint is the way the respond to these mistakes. Once I have received the official results then I will look at writing a letter to the rcvs.

Re: NVQ 3 Theory Results

That's terrible! There's a few problems raised with the fact that written exams are now on comp. One questions is "why can't you get your result straight away like they do in the driving test theory exam?" I think the answer to this is that they have to proof-read the answers after some of the questions!
I know that one of my questions must have been worded wrongly... I wont say the question as I might get in trouble for that... but diabetic discharge sharps, clini waste bag??? Ring a bell? Also there is no way the exam is based on a large bank of questions!
I can understand why we have to wait for the results rather than getting them immediately though 4-5 weeks feels like months when you're waiting

As for the diabetic question yes that seems very familiar! I have to say the wording of some of the questions have always been a little open to interpretation.
I believe a good way forward for RCVS VN exams would be to get rid of this multiple choice... you could pass that with a tad of luck. Give us something to get our teeth into. Let us explain why we would do something, what we are doing and how we would continue to do whatever it is.
Hi,

I was wondering whether anyone else had received a letter from the RCVS with regards their results?????

I received a letter in the post yesterday, two weeks early, I know!!! To look at this letter gives every indication that I've passed and includes a application to register as a RVN and attend the Admissions ceremony.

However on further investigation, partly because the letters early and partly because my friend and work mate hadn't received anything. It turns out the RCVS had mailed out a handful of letters by mistake and just because i've received this letter it doesn't mean I've passed. and they won't confirm either way.

As we're the first in the practice to sit the level 3 exams in a long time, no one here is sure what the normal procedure is for letters. Does anyone know whether you receive a separate pass letter for the theory test if you've passed the practical or do you get a letter with all the registration details.

So now I'm left even more stressed waiting till the 27th for the results.

Good lucks to all those waiting for their results

Sorry to digress on your message Sarah. Oh and the RCVS do what they wish when sending out letters! I'd asked for my results to be sent to my home address as I wasn't working in the morning and they still went to work address! I thought I'd failed as everyone had their results and text me saying they'd passed so i was paranoid when I got to work and letter was there!

Don't stress chuck, judging by the intellect displayed in your post I think 27th Aug will be a celebratory day for you but good luck anyway

Re: NVQ 3 Theory Results
I don't know for certain but i would of thought that as we got a certificate for the portofolio and one for passing theory for level 2 that we would recieve a certificate for each section of level 3 ie. portofolio, practical & theory but who knows?? May a recently qvn could shed some light, unfortunately my qvn/head nurse qualified before the nvq scheme so can't help.

On the other hand my letter from the rcvs to say i'd passed and advising me to registered as a rvn. also stated that the certificates for theory test HAD been sent to college/vnac for them to forward on.

However on further investigation, partly because the letters early and partly because my friend and work mate hadn't received anything. It turns out the RCVS had mailed out a handful of letters by mistake and just because i've received this letter it doesn't mean I've passed. and they won't confirm either way.
Appaling - a mistake like this is unforgiveable. I sincerely hope that you can continue your celebrations soon

Re: NVQ 3 Theory Results

The RCVS seem to be very unorganised of late, I believe they posted the full list of candidates sitting the practical exams as the past list...instead of the pass list!!!
