you could build one yourself dead easy - didnt use fur fabric on the first one, the boys would kill it in minutes but you can get that really cheap cord carpet which works really well instead . Last one was sort of pyramid shaped with a small den at the top under the 'apex' of the pyramid with a shelf under that and a 'grab' ball hanging from the shelf. Two of the sides of the pyramid I covered in sisal and the third leg was covered in carpet. Very sturdy and unlikely to topple even with a 7kg 'Morris' hanging from it. Approx 5 1/2 ft tall - so taller than me. total cost for sisal, 4x4 wood to secure the frame, wood staples, the mdf for shelf and den i already had, carpet was an off cut from the hallway ,wood glue and some nails was less than 15 quid.

If you do go for a pyramid design tho a word of caution - dont make it so big it wont fit through the door! We could have gone much much higher but that would have given me a wider base which would have made moving it from one room to another through a standard sized door impossible

might give them the original and build a bigger and better version for the boys - have been in touch with the carpet man and asked him for 12 cardboard inners - he asked if it was a scratch post or an assualt course

dead easy to make I am coming up with another design with a larger den at the top and hammock underneath

haha this sounds great!! Are they quite strong? We got a fat boy scratching post for Luka as hes a fat boy and he still manages to knock it down I might have to get creative!

I keep driving past building sites and see the massive cardboard reels that wire comes on, they would make a lovely scratch post!!! Never been in a position to stop and ask for one yet though!!!

My b/f made my two a scratching post mainly cos my male cat is v tall and all the scratching posts we could get were to short for him, they've now got a large branch screwed to a piece of wood covered in carpet they love it, it comes upto my waist my boy thinks its great cos he can sit on it and feel superiour. i however dont love it so much as its not covered in rope the bark gets everywhere

havnt thought about making them to order - carpet offcuts were my own from laying the carpet in the hall. Cant wait for the boys to see this! - just anothe few weeks now and I will be moving in and the boys will be country cats

And just so I didnt get bored I spent the afternoon replacing the guttering - I am getting a real taste for this DIY lark.

carpet shops everywhere will now be chuffed to bits they can give those cardboard rolls to veterinary staff rather than having to pay to have them taken away When i asked if they had any spare I was asked how many did I want?
