Companion Animal Welfare Council (CAWC). Google it for more info. Daniel Mills (Lincoln Uni) and Anne Mcbride (Southampton Uni) both sit on the council so I am guessing that their uni courses will be acceptable. Suggests that it might be an idea to study one of theirs if you want a guaranteed academic qualification.

I have heard that a Government focus group & the RCVS are in talks to make behaviourist a recognised qualification and that it will happen in the next few years (nothing happens quickly in RCVS world!)

Yes - that is the case. The minimum level of academic attainment that will be considered necessary for entry to the register is planned to be undergraduate level studies. I don't know how the COAPE course will fit that.

Thanks guys,

Im a little worried about doing one of their courses after speaking to someone at another branch. They were saying something about an offical register for behaviourist and the coap course may not be recognised. Anyone else heard something like this or am i worrying over nothing?

I'm from Soton, the behaviourist/trainer i use for Jack trained at Soton uni and is fab. Anne McBride teaches there, she's a fab behaviourist. Apparently she clicker trained a hippo to get it to walk onto a trailer rather than having to sedate it!

I'm just about to start the certificate (CO7?) so I can then go on to do the Dipolma. I spent a lot ot time reseasrching it and decided that the COAPE one was definately the best one to go for. The start date is Sept 1st so get your skates on & we could do it together!!

Hi Lesley

I have just completed the COAPE diploma (yesterday)!! & their courses are well worth the money. To be able to do the Diploma you have to have completed one of their entry courses (see their website for details), or to have done other sufficient studies. I have spent 2 years getting where I am today & I have thoroughly enjoyed it, even though it has been alot of hard work. There is alot of studying & assignments to do between residential weekends and they work you hard on those weekends too!

Go for it!!!!!
