We can either make up the hours or take it as sick leave which in fairness is what it is. If you were fine you wouldn't need a hospital!

Personally I don't understand employers. I'm currently working with Swine Flu coz my boss puts too much pressure on me if I'm off sick! Plus I live above the practice and I'm being spied on to make sure I don't leave when I'm not at work!

Sounds the same as where I work. If it is a non-emergency appointment then you are asked to make it out of work hours. If you have to book it during work hours then you can either pay the hours back via overtime or you take it as holiday.

If it is an emergency appointment then it is at the discression of the vet/nead nurse as to weather you owe it back.

Work are good really & one rule applies to all.

I think there's some rule that employers are obliged to make reasonable adjustments, but I can understand they're a bit miffed if you only work mornings & then are off.

My dentist is the same, works from 7-11am! So always have to be late for work, just end up making the time back, can you do that?

we used to get this paid, but end of last year they decided from now on hosp/doc apptms have to be unpaid or used as lunchbreaks, bit difficult to get the time off as work almost 7 days a week and never the times when doc/dentists are open!!

Same at ours, it states in our contract that we have to try and organise health trips out of work time if not will be taken out of our colleced overtime or holiday allowence! Sucks but ah well! Or we have to swap our shifts around so we take less time off!
