I am in the same position as you. I am looking to become a trainee vet nurse, but couldn't get anything. Even voluntary work. Its madness. Im not going to give up though.

I don't know much about the course from the open study college. But i have done the Animal Care Barony Certificate. Im almost finished with the course. And i am loving it. Its a start anyway.

I find its a good course. There are 11 units or workbooks. You study things like: feeding and watering animals, animal accommodation, health and safety, moving animals, training animals, exercising animals, health and well-being of animals, grooming, working relationships, record keeping, and stock control.

And the reason why i picked it over any other course, because its from a scottish agricultural college. There seems to be a alot of dodgy distance learning colleges and barony college is a proper college, so it wouldn't be dodgy.

Its not cheap at £80 pounds a unit. But you can pay per unit rather than the whole fee up front, which is great.

You would have to prove you are willing to learn as a trainee, so if a distance learning course doesn't do it, i don't know what will.
