We've holidayed there for the last 4 years or so. There are dog bans on a lot of the beaches between 8am and 8pm I think but there are a few open for dogs. My fave has to be Gwithian. Steps are fairly steep from the cliff top but once you're down there's miles of golden sand!

If you visit www.iknow-cornwall.co.uk there's loads of places to stay there and there's a search option for pet friendly.

We mostly visit the far South West, Sennen, St Just that kinda area and have found that most of the pubs are dog friendly.

Good luck

Re: UK holidays with your dog

Damn second time i've written this post...just managed to delete the first one!!!

My parents and i would like to take Jack away in oct for a week. I like the IOW and it's easy for us to get to being that we're only in southampton but i want to go somewhere different as we went there last year. We're thinking of devon/cornwall, lake district, cotswolds. Ideally we'd like a cottage. A vet at work has suggested going on to forestry commision website for the cotswolds as that's where she went and stayed in a chalet. I've joined the dog friendly website and it seems quite good but i'd like recommendations from you guys if you have any! I'll also want details of the local vet, just incase!

If anyone wants a house to rent on IOW that is across the road from a beach (sorry can't remember where it was, not far from Shanklin) that sleeps 8 that has friendly neighbours who own a beagle i can find the link to it! It was a lovely place, only had a little garden but didn't matter with the beach being a gravel track away! They take dogs there but we didn't have Jack at the time.

Re: UK holidays with your dog

Not on the coast but I found the cotswolds very dog friendly, and next year are going to the Lake District - some of that is close to the beach. We are staying at a b+b at Grange over Sands which is on coast and seems very dog friendly, and a cottage further inland outside of Kendall

Re: UK holidays with your dog

Hi have taken my dog to the isle of wight for the last 3 years, always stay in very nice b+b in shanklin a stone's throw from the beach. Dogs are permitted on the beaches between september and may and on certain beaches at other times. There are plenty of public footpaths over downland, with restrictions as per usual around farm animals.

Go to isle of wight tourism web site for more details.

The only down side is unfortunately the ferry prices, but you can get inclusive walking holidays if this is you cup of tea!

Can give you the b+b web address if interested.

Re: UK holidays with your dog

was trying to remember the name of the book last night - so here it is now. Its called 'pets welcome' and is a list of B+Bs and hotels in UK that will take dogs. Last one I got came from a tourist board office, I think it may come out yearly?

http://www.petswelcome.com/

can also try the above

Re: UK holidays with your dog

I don't have a dog myself :( but went camping few weekends ago around the north norfolk coast, and mostly everyone at the campsite had a dog, so i suppose its dog friendly that way.

I even went on a boat to see the seals and someone brought there dog on that! However i did see some signs regarding dogs on the beach and think they are restricted at certain times of the year, dont no if this applied to every beach but some were lovely and had a good walk to get to them to.

hope that helps

Re: UK holidays with your dog

there are a couple of pet friendly b+bs on the North Parade at Scarborough, will try and find the names for you, and there is another I think down Columbus Ravine, and another near the station. I think some parts of the beach are closed to dogs at some times of the year but as far as I am aware there is plenty of beach that isnt. The Scalby Mills pub near the sea life centre calls itself sprog and dog friendly and have certainly seen quite a few canines in there. Good walks around the esplanade and the Italian gardens also. Nice base for the North York Moors if you like that sort of walking as well

Re: UK holidays with your dog

I live at Berwick upon tweed and there are excellent beaches here as well as walks by the river.
