When the conversation is finished the button is pushed and the unit resets

Re: having a rant about the house wiring laws!!

My dad has a MECs (Mobile Emergency Crews) tag round his neck - if he sets it off, they phone the house, if he doesn't answer the phone then they send round one of their drivers, who has keys & they'll let themselves in to find out what's wrong. If they speak to him on the phone, they'll then phone one of their contacts (mum, me, brother etc) to tell them that he has set the alarm off & what was wrong. They have 3 sets of keys and about 5 contact numbers to phone if there is any problem.

I think it is an amazing service - run by the council and totally free, the only cost is getting all the extra keys cut. We used the service for my Gran before she died & they would drive past her house through the night to make sure she was still in the house, as she had a terrible habit of wandering off through the night and leaving the front door open.

However, Dad has set it off cos he's locked himself out of the house after a night at the pub and cos no answer on the phone, they come rushing round....not quite the emergency they were expecting!!

Re: having a rant about the house wiring laws!!

Is there not a nearby neighbour that you could trust with a key? that your mum could phone if she is on her own?

Re: having a rant about the house wiring laws!!

It is there is a 300mtr radius that the alarm works in so you can go into the garden and are not trapped in the house. Can use it for any reason that you need help even if you get a scare in the night or need fire or police or power cuts as there is battery in the base unit.

There is an small alarm you hang round your neck but if you prefer there is l think a wrist one. All you do is press the button and it send a signal to the base station and onwards

Re: having a rant about the house wiring laws!!

That really sounds like such a good service!

Re: having a rant about the house wiring laws!!

Under new regs all circuts all circuts need to be rcd protected as they are this when a lamp blows chances are they will take out an rcd. This is not a requirement but a result of the rules.

With regards to keys they have a mobile warden who meets the family and person they are looking out for at the start and you give them a key. it is then security tagged with a code so even if stolen there is no way to know whose is whose. You also have 2 named people and all 3 have access so no need to get a key to anyone as they have it.

GSD could make life aquward though but keys are not a problem.

Re: having a rant about the house wiring laws!!
Has she not got an emergency alarm on her neck if not get social to arrange this for her then she can get help from the call center they can at least flick the switch.
Problem is :

a) someone would need key to get in

b) bigger problem - they'd have to get past Kidu our black GSD to get to the trip box
