You do have to complete roughly 180 hours worth of teaching over the two year course. This can be split into say 60 hours in the first year and 120 in the second year. Those hours do include preparation of your lessons too. So say for a one hour lesson you might have 3 hours preparation time.

You do not need to be teaching to start the course but they do like you to have something in mind. The class needs to be aged over 14 years and more than 3 pupils. In theory if you hold puppy parties in work, speak at BVNA regional meetings or tutorials with your students these could all count towards your Cert Ed.

A couple of people I know just volunteered at a local college for a few hours a month to gain their Cert Ed.

There are no exams on the course all work is assessed through on-going assignments and projects. I had to complete a reflective diary of my teaching practice, design 10 lesson plans and teach them, have 3 assessments in my own teaching workplace and give two micro-lectures (a half an hour talk on any subject to your college class) to complete my first year. This will obviously vary a bit depending on what University you take your course through. Below is a link to my University..
http://www.morgannwg.ac.uk/morgannwg/crs_course_page.aspx?ID=146

The fees are usually funded through your local government teaching scheme visit
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/EducationAndLearning/UniversityAndHigherEducation/StudentFinance/index.htm

I can let you know what the second year has in store when i start it in September and if you have any more questions just let me know

Re: cert ed

Hi

You may not be able to do it like that anymore. It was pre ice age!! Really really enjoyed 7307. Course work & videoed stuff. Good fun. Met heaps of really good poeple (a ballet dancer, a rap artist, a chap working in a secure mental health unit for under 16s it was an eyeopener) The cert ed top up I found a bit dry & stuffy. Check out your local tech

Well worth doing. Good luck

Re: cert ed

Hi

I've been looking into this with my local college. You can do it over a year, though you need to carry out x amount of teaching hours during this time. There are assignments etc to complete, as well as carrying out different teaching methods for different student abilities etc. Looks good!

Re: cert ed

My meighbour is doing hers, I think it takes 2 yrs part time or 1 yr full time
