I found the first module daunting as well using language and terms I had never heard of before, how education can change soo much in 20 years is unbelievable!! It took me from November to March to complete the module and all the Assignments. Pace yourself and work out a timetable and try to stick to it remembering when the exams are. Do not forget time for yourself and pleasure. Remember all work and no play......

My big advice is learn how to reference and any notes you make from a book during studying a module always make a note of the reference there and then otherwise you will be looking forever later!!! (none of my previous study required me to do this!!!)

I used to phone or email Jane alot and still do at times. I agree she always seems to want to help and will pass on questions to the relative people who can answer them. If you don't want to bother her, you can send me a message. I am not doing all the same modules as you, but there are a number common to both courses.

Good luck Helen

Im struggling with a few things like links provided being out of date, information provided not there ect and Im never quite sure if Im looking in the wrong place or not! I got the impression that Jane was always keen to help and support but I feel silly getting in touch with all the small things, would rather wait till the big problems arise!!

I am enjoying it and know that once I get into the swing of things it will get easier its just this initial period where Im trying to get everything right and start off on the right foot! Any tips Id love to hear them!!

If you go to this website they have the forms (PTG1) that you would need to fill in.

You would need to:do a minimum of 4 modules per year: not have done a degree course before; and the amout given depends on your salary.

I am trying to do the course in twice the time as a normal Fdsc course and so I am doing 4 modules a year (for which I get a grant from the government as it counts as part-time learning), but as long as you complete 1 module a year, that is alright, and you can take the course at your own pace.

If you can find a local college or university that would allow you to sit the exams there you may not even have to travel to Warwickshire to sit the exams.

If you have any more questions just ask or call the college and speak to Jane Weldon, she is very helpful.

Re: Distance Learning Courses

All I can say is amazing!
Then i fly again in November. Want my head read me thinks, but over here there is no equine specific course. It is all smallies with a touch of eqine chucked in which is not what i want right now. I do want to do my smallies, but not right now, first i want equine out the way and there is nowhere here in SA which offers such a course.
