A short while ago, I felt the exact same as you, wondering and panicking, would I know or would I be too selfish and just hold on that little longer....

Then one morning I woke up with him sleeping at my feet but he was gone :( knew it was comming though he was 18 :( even now 4 years on makes me sadto right this! Only just got 2 cats last year because the pain of losing my sparky was too much!

But looby I wouldnt worry just yet, the bond you have will make sure he knows to tell you when its time and for now enjoy the hugs and cuddles and any senior moments he may have. You will know and so will he don't worry just yet!! :)

Re: How do you know when its time?

It seems so easy when I'm talking to clients about this, I know all the things to say. I have always worried about this with my own and there has always been something that has told me when they have had enough. Oscar my first 'practice' cat had been ill for a little while(kidney failure and abdominal mass) and one afternoon he just sat on the windowsill and stared and stared at me - and somehow I just knew the time was right to say goodbye. Bomber spent the whole evening on the bed the night before he died which was totally out of character for him (kidney failure again). Willow became very aloof when normally she was a very clingy cat (hyperthyroid and renal failure) Luci cat kept hiding in strange places and wouldnt come out (hyperthyroid and diabetic).
