4 of the girls in our surgery are currently having various tests from abnormal smears. It just seems a bit weird that we all work at the same place. Has anyone else experienced this?
In the 60's and 70's it was common to give these things to stop miscarriage. I have had border line/mild abnormal smears for years and this is thought to be due to this. I now have a yearly smear/colposcopy/biopsy. Apparently the colposcopy department have a specific protocol to follow if you have been in contact with this type of drug but not many people know if they have been in contact. I only found out because i had to fill in a generation health type questionaire for a cancer charity once.

You should tell the hospital if this is likely to have happened to you as they keep a close eye on you for years.

There is a big increase in smears being arranged due to the Jade Goody publicity, and in our area they are very thorough due to a scandal a few years ago at the, then, hospital that did the testing. I think mine took about 5 weeks toc ome back.

I would have thought it odd that so many were abnormal - they can also be due to HPV virus so maye you are all seeing the same bloke ? or transmitting it through toilet visits (not sure if the virus can live long enough and enter through that route though?).

It would be very interesting to find out, and maye you should each ask your doctor what they think, or if they were all taken at the same clinic maye there are issues there?

Re: Smear tests

Apparently the whole country is doing too many tests due to the 'Jade Goody' effect and so some areas are getting these tests wrong somehow, maybe rushing to get them back in time. I had to wait 7weeks for my first smear, was all normal, so yay! But that many abnormal tests in one practise is either a fluke or something is going on..

Re: Smear tests

[quote user="StephB"] I did however get told I have PCSO on one of my ovaries. :( It explains a lot of the problems i've been having in the last few years. but still very depressing. I went throughlots of tests about 4 yrs ago and had to have tx to have them removed, through one thing and another I slipped through the net of having it done every year after that and I kept forgetting, so I went a few weeks back and got the dreaded letter last night. gotta go in 6 months and get it done again and then we shall see

Re: Smear tests

I'm just going thru the process...... went 2 wks ago but couldn't be done as it was too painful(?) so made an apppointment for this Friday, but got home from work today and my doctors have cancelled my appt(??) so need to make another..........................

Re: Smear tests

I just got one the other day I will let you know what my results are when they get back.
