I'm scared as I HATE interviews. Guess I should dress smartly, although I will find this difficult as my only smart black trousers I have been wearing to work and are now not so smart.

Its the individual VNAC who determine whether any previous quals are relevant (though GCSEs are still the same)-is your VNAC the college you will be attending? Definitely try and get hold of your certificates as one of our SVNs had a nightmare trying to track her certs down (as she left school 15yrs previous!) as the VNAC needed proof before allowing her to enrol.
I'm now in the same boat. The VNAC I'm using has just been given my enrolment form but says the RCVS may throw it out because I gave the VNAC my original O and A level results from 1978/1980 which were only a computerised slip of paper with all results on it.. We never had certificates in those days.
However I have a much more recent HND in Animal Management which is higher than the recommended alternative of a BTEC ND... but this seems to e being ignored.

Anyone ever got round the lack of certificates problem?
Anyone used an HND as an alternative or more recent qualifcation to O/A levels or GCSEs?

Oh, and my VNAC is not the same as the college I will go to for the course. That college was where I did the HND and have accepted me back without any problem.

Re: Interview at college

You don't need to take your certs until enrolement day chick! They'll take scans of the certs to hold on file. If you don't bring them/can't find them its not a prob as long as you explain why they'll still let you start! x

Re: Interview at college

Think its depends on which college you will be attending!

Re: Interview at college

Our students don't attend college at all until their first day!

Re: Interview at college

See, that's why I was surprised at having to go to an interview. Thought once you got your placement that was that.
Depending on when you left school you may need to do key skills in English and numeracy. Nothing to worry about (lots of help sites online to assist with these) but they are pretty much standard.

college interviews are nowhere near as bad as work ones.
They want to meet you to see your attitude towards studying, attendance etc (so be early!), how much you know about the course already (so read up the course content, and ask about funding etc), and basically they are trying to make sure that you are doing the right course and could stick it out.

This thought might help - ANA and SVN places aren't easy to obtain these days, so getting bums on seats for a college course is the main priority of the college - they get money for each bum, even if the bum leaves [during the course :D], so as long as the prospective student is likely to be well behaved, punctual, and able to study, then I don't think they reject people. Personal observation from boh attending as a student and teaching at colleges.

They will want to check your qualifications and to see if they match the course pre-requisites so take all paperwork along with you, plus the job offer letter so that they have proof you are employed doing the job needed for the course.
Ahhhh - I'm not sure whether my GCSE certificates are seeing as it was sooooo long ago - and not sure where my letter is either - gulp. I have the manager down as a referee though so do you think this will be good enough? x
