I have my Level 2 exams this week, then after that have a 2 weeks mad rush (!!) to complete my portfolio, whats mainly outstanding is ALOT of K and U questions - as myself and my assessor did not know

Re: K and U questions argghh!!
Its because the receptionist is deemed qualified in her role as a receptionist, she has experience in reception and may even be better than some of the nurses who cover reception. I know plenty nurses who quake at the thought of covering reception. She would not be able to sign things off for theatre practice.

As for not having SVNs sign things off, not all SVNs have been in practice for 10 years with a multitude of veterinary experience behind them, so it is only right that no SVN of the equivalant level should not sign off. You can get a Level 3 sign off on Level 2 portfolio, as they are experienced in Level 2 & have the certificate to prove it.

I have 2 assessors; one who is fab and gets it done, one who aint so good who hates being an assessor and clearly shows it. Each are in charge of certain units and the one who hates assessing I feel is holding me back. I have done my level 3 exam written today and wanted to do my pracs in sept but thats gonna be impossible as portfolio not complete.

I feel so fed up with having to rely on other people to get my qualification. If other people can't be arsed what can I do? It's so annoying when i get home from a long day spend ages writing a case up and then it doesn't get marked and cos its not planned i have to do planning sheets too!

I think work:college ratio based learning is good but assessment is bad. Portfolio is a big pile of ridiculous muck!!!
The witness doesn't have to do much writing! You can write it up as a candidate narrative - the witness statement then has to simply say that it happened as you desribed. Will take them no time at all but it means you will be able to cover things that you did which someone other than your assessor observed. Certainly useful for many of the things that have to 'just happen' and can't be planned. Just make sure your witness is suitably 'qualified' to witness you - ie a QVN/experienced receptionist/assistant vet. Another student or ANA won't suffice.

Some SVNs have been veterinary nursing for years and years and are doing their training in accordance with their practice deciding to become a TP ot tier accredited. I don't see how a receptionist can be an expert witness over someone who is now studying to be qualified RVN with 10 years experience vet nursing albeit without post nominal letters?!

Re: K and U questions argghh!! Some of k&u questions the answers could go on for EVER!! You could write an essay on one simple k&u criterion! All that matters is that your assessor is satisfied you are aware and capable in fulfilling that particular k&u. It's all a load of crap really!! It's recording what u can do and that you've planned you can do it, you did it and then you evaluated it!!!
You could also record an oral discussion so your assesso is asking the questions and you answering, much quicker than writing them all down, also as the others sugest photos are a quick way of covering them too.
