I'm going travelling soon and am interested to know whether you ever go around to creating this website ??

Re: Opinions please - and I know you love to give them!
Sounds fab. If you do set it up a small charity that needs vets and vns is called PAWS (Paxos Animal Welfare Society). Paxos is a small island off of Corfu. It was set up by some english ladies as there is no vet practice on the island so people have to travel to Corfu for treatment, not ideal! So they treat both strays and owned animals.
Ive just checked and the WVS already send veterinary support to this project so thats a relief! I'll still look into it though, but the more and more I look into the WVS it looks like they've kind of already got the kind of site I wanted to set up up and running. So I'll do a bit more research and evaluate it again! Thanks for everybody's help though! x

Re: Opinions please - and I know you love to give them!

Brilliant - thats just the type of thing I need, those little charities that go under the radar a lot but need just as much help! I want the website to weed out all them money seeking projects! I mean don't get me weong - I don't blame them for making a buck out of he tourist industry, its just I'd like to be a little more useful than that! I know of certain neutering programmes in Spain and the Greek Islands that need vet nurses for that kind of thing so thats a start. I haven't been to the website you spoke of - but I shall head there right now!!

Re: Opinions please - and I know you love to give them!

You sound very disillusioned with the whole volunteer scenario!! I think your idea sounds very useful indeed- have you seen the WVS website? Have you found that useful at all? Theirs never look like rip offs- unlike some of the more exotic volunteer ones which you know are there just to get some hard currency out of animal lovers who want to have a "meaningful" holiday. I worked with someone who had volunteered in Thailand at soem animal sanctuary or other and worked alongside people who wanted two weeks in Thailand with lots of animals but had no idea that animals were hard work- so half the time they didn't get up for the early morning food preparation because they were paying for the privilege of working there!
