my little sky is very ill,(she is the very dark blue merle)
she started being sick last night the the runs other night and this morning, took her to the vet this morning
where she has been keep in, with a tem of 104! and still being sick, she just sat there looking at me why they put a drip in, she never gave any fight at all.
poor girl I don't know what to do but hope and walking about cleaning. have to ring the vets at 2pm to see how she is and what the next.
please think of her she is a very sweet little girl, a real little gem.I have no idea what I am going to do if she don't make it, she is my baby.

Update

"we just called the vets, she is a little better but the vet thinks it,s the heat!
the last time she was in the car was Tuesdays and it was first thing in the morning.
we have fans in all the down stairs rooms ( not just for dog but for all of us)
we don't walk them till late at night, they have water at all times and I wet them down in the day!
I feel so bad how could I let this happen, I am sure, I was doing all the right things, rooms dark windows all open fans on. only walk them late at night when it's cooler.
we have to ring back at 5 but looks like she is in for the night if not longer.
I am sorry so how could I not have seen it, we did all the things we should have done, my poor baby and I did this to her. I don't know what more I could have done to stop the sun getting to her.
sorry got all my word mix up, it's a stress thing i think."

I know this isn't the same, in comparison, but it just goes to show what can happen - even if you are taking reasonable measures in this weather.

Re: Police Dogs in Notts

Temperatures in a car can easily get to 60C very quickly.

What I am trying to point out is that there are many 'offences' going on right in front of us but because they dont receive media attention, because in many cases they are near misses- nobody bothers.

Dogs cooped up in an office? - this was reported to the RSPCA by another staff member - temperatures in the office were regularly being recorded at 30 and 31C throughout that summer. Staff going up into the office to photocopy or fill out insurance forms were only able to stay there for very short periods because of the heat - and yet the dogs had to stay in there all day. True the dogs were left with water - which was usually tipped over in the first few minutes, but the only window in the office was kept closed to prevent them jumping out (office on first floor). With that kind of temperature and for a very prolonged period and with a lack of water I do feel that this is comparable to a hot car. - How many times does this happen in a day up and down the country? and yet nothing is said.

Re: Police Dogs in Notts

I am not sure you can really compare someone leaving a dog in a hot office, which will be uncomfortable but not life-threatening, with the oven that a locked car becomes. That must be a horrible death.

I am not 'gunning' for anyone - of course the person involved must have the right to put forward his reasons etc. in an enquiry. I am simply saying that the senior policeman on TV who said that the guy involved needs no punishment because 'he has to live with what he has done' was missing the point completely. The policeman may have been involved in some crucial job/investigation - but he may have also been too lazy to move the dogs to the kennels and then got carried away chatting to his mates. He should be the one setting the example - he should NEVER have left them in the car at all - then it couldn't have happened.

It could be argued that as an experienced dog handler he should have been aware of the risks of leaving the dogs in the vehicle.

It could also be argued that all the dog breeders who left their dogs in roasting hot cars at the dog show I attended on Saturday also knew the risks of leaving their dogs in vehicles. I was attending with a vet friend and it wasnt until we complained to one of the stewards that an announcement was made over the pa system for owners not to leave their dogs in cars because of the heat.

and slightly different (but only slightly different) what about dogs belonging to practice staff that are cooped up in sometimes very hot offices, staff rooms, libraries, day in day out - whatever the dogs handlers perceived 'crime' there are some in this profession who really should know better who are equally 'guilty' - and no I am not using this as an excuse, just saying it as it is.

Re: Police Dogs in Notts

I agree that they should be punished, however as Sal said, we don't know the full story. It could well have been that the police officer had a genuine reason for being away from the car for such a long time - he could've been wrestling with some mass murderer for all we know. (Although probably more likely he was too busy issuing speeding tickets. Grr) Having said that... according to reports the dogs were parked only a few yards away from air-conditioned kennels, so I'm finding it very hard to excuse the guy. I just hope people learn from this.

whilst I agree the dogs should not have been left in a car I have to say accidents happen and will use the following as an example.

A nurse I used to work with left her dog in the car (in the staff carpark as it happens) the reason being a vets dog was already loose in the practice and these two dogs hated each others guts. The rule in the practice was that if staff members brought in dogs they had to be kenneled which was fair enough. Whilst trying to capture the vets dog she got diverted by an RTA cat that she assisted with and forgot about her dog in the car. 20 mins later a member of the public came to the desk and said that the dog in the car looked very sick. She was lucky, the dog survived. - A genuine mistake, she would never in a million years want to cause her dog harm. The point I am trying to make is that the 2 dogs that perished may equally have been an accident. We dont know the full story - and now the media is involved will probably never know the full story! - and not knowing the full story means in my book that nobody should be apportioning blame.

Surely the most important thing now is that this doesnt happen again and that lessons are learned

[/quote]

That's how I feel. I think the owner of those dogs will suffer enough without everyone else gunning for them

Re: Police Dogs in Notts

whilst I agree the dogs should not have been left in a car I have to say accidents happen and will use the following as an example.
