I'd love to travel, but as ive never been one able to save money:) and given the nature of the job we do it makes sense to me to do some amazing

Re: Working Abroad

It's impossible to do a direct exchange rate as cost of living in NZ is so different to here.

To put it another way, I was on $38,000 p.a which will give you the lifestyle equivalent to about £27,000 here. (although by that stage i was doing more than just general nursing)

Re: Working Abroad

NZ$12.50 is £4.90 and NZ$18 is £7.56 l realise that change rates change but l do not think that much.?

Re: Working Abroad
Although she lives on her own in the forest for 2 months at a time so is clearly nuts!)
Yes, seems that if conservation work's involved there's lots of living in forests/jungles/peat-swamps!!! or is it just me?!!!

Re: Working Abroad

Really?!

Maybe it was just the practices I worked for then.

In that case, a few practices around Wellington pay quite well. Our new graduates started on $12.50/hr and when I left I was on $18/hr

Re: Working Abroad

when i was in NZ VN's were very poorly paid and only got minimum wage!

Re: Working Abroad

Dunno if you were looking this far south, but VNs in New Zealand get paid a lot better than in the UK.

You might be able to get some ecology work there too. A friend of mine does a lot of conservation work and reports on various wild life sightings. (Although she lives on her own in the forest for 2 months at a time so is clearly nuts!)

Re: Working Abroad

Working abroad as a vn all depends on what you are looking for, domestic/wildlife, long/short term, volunteer/paid, this will greatly affect what you will get!

i've been lucky enough to have traveled alot, all of it post qualification. There are quite alot of places that would take a person on with vn skills but these are generally unpaid and would not help your saving problem! The places i helped at did not pay and i had to pay basic living costs and sometimes a small fee to help them with their project costs.

Have you looked at WVS site? http://www.wvs.org.uk they may have something of interest? unfortunately you have to subscribe, however, this is what i've found with most projects as they are charities.

If you are looking to work as a vn abroad and get paid there are agencies that can help, especially for places like oz and nz, and these are generally short term. I recently saw jobs for the middle east, would that intrest you? and one recently in the vet times for bermuda! These are permanent jobs but will generally help with relocation fees and are waged so you wont need to save, but will have to commit for at least a year!

I'm always on the look out for jobs abroad, working with wildlife aswell as ecology based work and unfortunately there is either lots of competition for the one position or there are cost involved!! i've never found it easy!

As far as i'm aware our qualifications are accepted everywhere, not sure about the US tho.

I hoped this help. Sorry cant give you any definate names or places, hopefully someone else can, and then i can go there too!!

Good luck
