One of the members who
passed on from cancer not long ago put up a series of articles on
animals and nature and l thought l would put some of them up here. The
author, Tony Seward, stated in a conversation

Re: Poaching in Africa

That is the sad story of Africa. I had been on deployment on one of South Africa's borders when a poacher had been shot in an Elephant Park next to our base as he was caught poaching and tried to shoot back.

Re: Poaching in Africa

thats a very sad story. I have been to africa twice and the giraffes seem so peaceful. It does make you angry that animals should suffer in this way but then I suppose you have to look at the other side of the story, if the local people see none of the profits from tourism etc. they may see no other choice. Talking to some rangers on my last trip they were saying that there is a no tolerance policy now and they shoot first, ask questions later! people must have to be pretty desperate to risk death to poach these animals.
