This practice is about 17 miles from me but as it is all country roads can take a little while. Traffic isn't usually too bad going there though as everyone tends to be going the other way.

It's good to hear from someone else that has a distance to drive, hopefully it wont put me at a disadvantage. I made sure I made it clear that driving doesn't bother me and I'm quite happy to come out late at night if I need to. So fingers crossed! (It's going to be a long week)

I live 22miles from my practice, takes me between 45mins and 1 hour to get to work in rush hour but it honestly doesnt faze me as I love my job!

Re: Spending day at TP on Monday

Im glad your day seemed to go well, keeping fingers crossed for you!

The usual times for being on call are late evenings and weekends and I usually find that journeys take less time as the traffic is usually quieter.

Re: Spending day at TP on Monday

This practice is about 17 miles from me but as it is all country roads can take a little while. I tried to ask as many questions as possible but it was a bit awkward as everyone was busy and I didn't want to get in the way!

The two vets took time out to have a proper chat with me and asked me all the usual interview questions. I think it went well, I'm not the most confident person but I tried to speak up and ask questions about procedures and when I left I made sure I said thank you for letting me spend the day there and said that after seeing what goes on vet nursing is definately what I want to do.

They said I should hear in about a week. The one negative thing they said though was that they think I might live too far away It took me 35 minutes to get there and they said that when I'm on call that might be too far to come. At the moment person that live furthest away is about 25 minutes. I said that it doesn't bother me being on call and that I dont generally go out in the evenings anyway. So hopefully that doesn't put them off. They were very impressed that I didn't feel sick or faint during the operations so hopefully that looked good!

Really didn't want to go to work this morning and now feel really fed up. I just want to know what they thought of me!

Re: Spending day at TP on Monday

ask what they'd prefer you to wear on the day - a lot of places don't like you wearing jean and trainers, but don't want you in a smart suit either.
As others have said, ask lots of questions, ask if you can help with things, especially mundane tasks.
Pick something you really like and say how interested you are in finding out more about it - a particular operationdisease/piece of equipment, drug etc.
at the end say how much you enjoyed the time, thank them for taking the time out of their busy day to show you around, and ask if they would like any work experience help...

Good luck, hopefully this is your foot in the door, and it would be wonderful after only 4 months of searching.

Re: Spending day at TP on Monday

Good luck, enjoy yourself and try to relax as much as possible (hard i know when you want it so much!). Like Kimbo said, ask for jobs, and ask questions about procedures when it's appropriate, it should go down well! Let us know how you get on.

Re: Spending day at TP on Monday

Ask lot's of questions and be as interested as possible. Also ask if there is anything you can help with. We had a work experience the other week who wanted to go into vet nursing and she asked why we didn't have a digital x-ray machine as surely they are much faster (explained they were expensive and then showed her how quick it is to process an x-ray) and then got in a mood when we asked if she minded sweeping!!
