I’m in the south west and my company have a hiring freeze currently. Having said that, we are still filling roles where people have left, so worth sending CVs if there’s a particular role you want! It’s also always good to network, chat to people in places you want to work, visit for a day etc etc.

As a RVN, now Practice Manager, I’ve seen a shift in the recruitment pool. Over 12 months ago we could hardly get one application to a role, and we were inundated with locum agencies. Now, we’re inundated with recruitment agencies offering candidates and we have a great range of applications to positions.

I am also aware there’s pretty much a different recruitment agency for every colour on the spectrum! And a lot of them are actively contacting my team to offer the world elsewhere!

PS .. this is back office staff: https://www.vettimes.co.uk/news/jobs-fear-as-linnaeus-confirms-restructure/ but clearly another company feeling the pinch. There seems to be a lot of it about. Someone told me of yet another company having a recruitment freeze at the moment.

It's a tricky employment world out there! I'm struggling to simply get to speak to a real person at a practice to discuss roles, it seems that everything has been handed to recruitment companies who I'm struggling to shake off - similar to a tick! Bombarded by messages, emails, telephone calls and they seem to go backwards and forwards to the employer.. Just want to have a little chat with non recruitment agency human! I do "get it" and they need to get someone into a practice... I'm a struggling RVN dinosaur trying to find a role to fit into life but not many unicorn roles to choose from....

Not sure I remember there being quite that many ... more like 150-200. But yes, it is a quiet at the moment ... my understanding is that one of the big players has had a recruitment freeze, which has had a very big impact. I am not sure whether any other factors in play, but tempted to have a summer sale and see whether that makes a difference!
