I'm a night small animal RVN, at my new job we take equine emergancy calls which we then pass onto the equine vet oncall. Now its been a few years now since I was a student and I can't remember anything about horses. Can anyone recommend any

RE: Basic equine triage cpd help

I don't know of any CPD but could you ask your equine vets for a list of questions that you could ask the owner? Could you discuss with your equine vets scenarios that could potentially occur and how you would need to deal with them? Could your practice potentially come up with a flow chart with different scenarios for your reference when dealing with phone calls on the equine side?

RE: Basic equine triage cpd help

hi there, I would have an absolutely no idea regarding Equine CPD but if you are going back to basics with horses, then perhaps consider buying instead, one of the textbooks aimed at student equine veterinary nurses? I can’t remember the name of the textbook and I’m nowhere near a position where I can look at the moment but I think if you just did a search for equine vet nursing you’d probably come up with a textbook on Amazon. It will be a lot cheaper than doing CPD And probably a lot more help. If you read through that textbook, you’ll get a crash course in all the basics that know to hit the ground running as a day one qualified nurse. Pretty sure it has sections on first aid et cetera. I’ve got it on my shelf at home and I think it’s and excellent book and has been really helpful to me as a vet nurse who owns horses despite not being horsey.
