On environmental swabbing the rubber mat in our theatre came back harbouring nasties twice (I can't rememeber what as I don't have the results with me). There have been a couple of practices using the reflect-a-therm covers for both theatre and consulting rooms as they are supposed to be claw and leak proof. I went to one practice that had the IMS VetMedWear exam table mats and they were very snazzy and easy to clean. I have found in the past the rubber mats are quite difficult to clean properly when they have claw marks in them and when tested came back with nasties like you said probably due to the micro-abrasions.

RE: What do you think about rubber mat table tops, esp in theatre?

We have buster inflatable beds between the stainless steel table and patient, they are cleaned between patients and help insulate the patient while anaesthetised.
