Does anyone please have some example questions that are likely to come up during an interview for a head nurse position?
Thank you

Oooh ooh oooooh...what was your answer?! That's a tricky one!!!
I was lucky in that I could relate back to a situation I had dealt with previously at another practice. Nurse was asking me if she could be excused heavy lifting / anaesthetics/ xrays because she was very early pregnancy but didn't want anybody else to know because she wasn't sure if she wanted to keep the baby (father was also a staff member but they were no longer friends and she did not want him to know). She was also looking for another job so she didn't have to work with the father and didn't want the pregnancy to be known until she had been interviewed (bit naughty in my book but there you go)

I dealt with it in the same way I usually deal with these things, long chat and offering a short, limited time in which the person could take their issue to management themselves (because I figure its usually better coming from the person immediately concerned rather than a 3rd party) or the offer to go to management with her and see what we could sort out together.

In the finish the solution was a bit of both she came back to me the next day and asked if I could arrange a meeting and would I go in with her as she didnt feel able to do it alone- I asked for a confidential meeting with senior vet and supported her during it. The father was 'promoted' to another branch in the group, and we got to keep both staff members

RE: Head nurse interview questions

Scenario questions are usually ones that crop up for management level positions. Theres a big difference between interviewing for a role in the practice you work in already, compared to steping into a new practice.

Having a firm understanding in your mind on the difference between management and leadership will help you, especially if you understand how differing degrees of both are required for every situation. If you can crack that, you can easily talk your way through scenarios. I've been performing a number of interviews lately, if you'd like a mock phone interview I'm happy to help.

RE: Head nurse interview questions

Yeah,juicy question that one!

RE: Head nurse interview questions

New practice

RE: Head nurse interview questions
one question I got was - if a member of your nursing team told you something in confidence that management really should know about how would you deal with it?
